The first major patch for NHL 25 dropped on October 4, just hours before the official worldwide release. EA Sports NHL introduced several key adjustments with this update, addressing player concerns that surfaced during the Early Access period. Among the modifications, the most notable is a tweak to goaltender performance. During Early Access, some players found it too easy to score by simply passing the puck into the net from close range. The update improves the goalie AI, enabling them to better anticipate and react to these close-range passes, aiming to make scoring from such scenarios more challenging.
Beyond this gameplay update, the patch tackles specific issues in the EASHL and World of Chel modes. One significant change is in the matchmaking system of the EASHL. Previously, human-controlled goalie teams could face off against AI-controlled goalie teams, leading to an imbalance. With the patch, matchmaking will now continue until both teams have human goalies, ensuring a more consistent and fair experience. The World of Chel mode also received attention; developers resolved a bug that caused games to crash when players interacted with certain in-game notifications and another issue that triggered crashes when exiting the Ones Eliminator mode and returning to World of Chel.
