Seems to me I remember long ago (well before version 2.4) people complained about the splash screen grabbing onto the center of the Monitor  and staying in front of everything else while Profiler loads.  Clearly, nothing was done to change this, so it's difficult to do anything else with your computer while waiting for Profiler to load.

Before I go to the feature request forum with this, does anyone know of a way to get Profiler to relinquish focus while loading?  (Pardon me for my less than adequate knowledge of how these things work - or of the correct terminology to use.)

You're too impatient!

Takes six seconds to load for me but then again, I've got a fast computer and a striped RAID going.

Couldn't find anything obvious in the registry, so I think it's unlikely.

I've got two really slow PCs and it takes probably 10 seconds when I can't use the PC... the sky is falling!

Anyway, for those with the ultra-short attention span, I think you can change the command to start up the program by adding a 'nosplash' after the main command:

"C:\Programme\DVD Profiler\dvdpro.exe" nosplash

or similar, and you won't get the splash screen at all.

Works for me.
Actually the splash screen pops up for a little while, less than a second on my PC, then goes away.

Works for me, too.  Including the part about the screen showing for a brief moment. Thanks, Voltaire.

Before I added the nosplash option, I timed the splash screen when opening Profiler.  It was there for a full minute (60 sec.)  I realize that's not very long, and I must seem really impatient (you're right, Dr. K.) but it was more of an annoyance than anything else.

Ken,

Your collection is about ten times the size of the good doctors so it takes you a long time.

Mine is about half the size of yous, so it take me half of a long time.

Is this splash screen the Eye,, that fills in with color from left to right??
If so ,, The eye is giving you the time level of how fast the program is loading.
My older PC from Last Year ( AMD Athlon XP3000+ Socket A (Socket 462) processor, 333 Front Side Bus with 512KB L2 Cache (Model 10 “Barton” core)  took about 20 seconds to load my... 600 (ahem) titles..,

and now my newer PC (Processor Main Circuit Board 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core and 256 kilobyte primary memory cache 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: WinFast 6100M2MA FAB1.0 Bus Clock: 201 megahertz) takes about 7 seconds to load.. But you have over 5000 titles so I'm imagining that at 8 times more the titles your load time couldn't possibly be a full minute to load or is it?
What is your PC specifications ??  I'd be curious to know.

I suspected as much.  But at least now I don't have to work around the "Eye" while I'm waiting for Profiler to load.

@terry,

I'm running a 2.6 gigahertz Celeron with 2 GB memory.  But it did take a full minute to load.

Just loaded it anew - and it took 60 seconds.  I can live with that - I'm used to a program at work that takes about 3 minutes to load.  That's a pain when you have someone on the phone asking you a question and you both have to wait for your d__n software to load.

In my opinion it's not about how fast it is or switches to make it even faster.  It's annoying.  I hate any program that steals focus.  I would like to see it gone completely.  So I say make yet another request for this.

One way around the problem is to load it and then keep it 'alive'  all day in your taskbar..

But you can turn it off (as above)... leave it alone for the people, like me, who like it!

No you can't.  I use that switch.  There's still a small flash.  And when the program loads, it steals the focus.  I know it sounds like a small annoyance, but I'll click the icon, then get back to whatever I was doing.  It's annoying to have the program popup in the front when it finishes loading.

I agree. It would be nice if you could avoid the splash screen completely. Or at least change it so that it does not steal the focus.
