Hello,

I strictly use DVD Profiler offline (locally) only. I have no interest or desire to have anything to do with the online database.

Every time I click on "Add DVD," DVD Profiler automatically updates the local profile database file from the Internet. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn it off.

DVD Profiler 2.x didn't do this.

How can I get DVD Profiler 3.x to not update the database file when I click "Add DVD"?

It connects to the online database to download the latest profile information, so you can add new dvds to your collection, in exactly the same way 2.4 did.

If it didn't you wouldn't be able to add the latest releases, unless you want to do it all manually. You can click the cancel button if you really must.

No, DVD Profiler 2.4 does NOT connect to download the latest database index files from the Internet when the "Add DVD" button is pressed. With 2.4, you do NOT NEED to have the "latest profile information" in order to add DVDs. You simply enter the UPC number and title twice for verification. In fact, DVD Profiler 2.4 never connects "automatically" to download anything without prompting the user first.

This is the way I use the program.

As I said, I am using DVD Profiler OFFLINE only. I want nothing to do with the online database. I don't want to download it, and I especially don't want to download it every time I click the "Add DVD" button.

When I click "Add DVD," I just want the "Add DVD" dialog to come up, as it did it 2.4. It would be fine if it prompted me for an update and I could just click "cancel." Or better yet, if there was an option in preferences to download the latest database file automatically, prompt, or never download it. This is usually a configurable option in most programs like this.

If I can't control this functionality, I'm just going to go back to 2.4. I don't like it when programmers make decisions for me on how I use my own PC!

I really don't see the problem with this. The 2.4 version does exactly the same thing when you add a DVD to your collection, it start downloading the online database first. Just click cancel that's all.

I don't understand why a question like this would even be posted.  If you want your profiles to be correct then let if download.

For the second time now in this thread, NO, DVD PROFILER 2.4 or 2.5 DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD THE ONLINE DATABASE WHEN "ADD DVD" IS CLICKED.

It PROMPTS FIRST, LIKE THIS:

Stop trying to perpetuate misinformation.

DVD Profiler 3.x no longer prompts. It automatically connects to the Internet without my consent. I don't want it to do this. My database is entirely hand entered and maintained locally, by me. I don't want the online database files downloaded.

I don't appreciate you trying to label me as a conspiracy nut, that has NOTHING to do with this. It's simply my preference, and I figured there may be a very simple answer to this. Guess I was dead wrong about that.

This post does absolutely nothing whatsoever to help with the issue I posted about. If you're not going to help, I would really appreciate it if you simply don't post. Thanks.

if you use a software firewall then you could configure this to block dvd profiler without asking. This may resolve this for you (I admit I haven't tried this).

First this is to quote yourself :

"If I can't control this functionality, I'm just going to go back to 2.4. I don't like it when programmers make decisions for me on how I use my own PC!"

If this is not a conspiracy nut thing, than what is it? A lot of program conect themselves to the internet. Do you use an anti-virus? if so it download is new database everyday. Microsoft does the same thing, Mozilla does the same thing and a lot of other programs does the same thing...

The programmer don't take any decision for your computer use ... Just return to the 2.4 version, but honestly I don't see what is the problem with the fact that you have to download a daily update to have a better database ...

Just push the cancel button when it ask you that's all if you prefer to have something incomplete. No need to play the drama queen with this.

Shout as much as you want this is the only response that you will got

Many programs, including Mozilla and antivirus sofware, let you disable the automatic connection to the Internet, autoupdate or whatever it is called, if you want/need to.

He said he uses DVDP only offline and has no interest to have anything to do with the online database, so he really doesn't need to download any update.

Hmm... An option would be handier.

Currently there is no way to disable this "feature". Perhaps asking for an option in the Features Thread would help make this an option in a future release.

I'm sorry, but when you disagree with most of rules, it is often better to fill all the fields rather than download a profile.

Yes, that works just fine.

If you dont have a firewall, you can configure DVDProfiler to use a non-existing proxy server via Tools -> Options, Online tab. Just enter something like 127.0.0.1:999 as server address.

Also keep in mind that it's not updating your database, it's simply downloading a list of movies that are available in the online database.

I'm sure that 2.4 doesn't have even a tenth of the uploaded titles.., ( who uses 2.4 anymore?  Do we need a Poll? )
If you prefer to manually do all your titles , its easy to do and shouldn't get in the way of your own personal changes. you would be in a very, very small group of people who prefer this method..
(unless it is a title that isn't even in the database., Any Database) .

Can you imagine if the Invelos site was not updating your on line database?., there would be a lot more backlash of angry subscribers who prefer the way it is now.

There are two tick boxes at the bottom of the Add DVD's to Owned page and that will put you right at the page you need.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

I tried that and it doesn't work... DVD Profiler now hangs at the "Internet Database Connection" window after clicking "Add DVD."

I'll just go back to 2.4. Thanks to those who tried to help!
