| Posted: | | | | I recently picked up a new computer with HDMI out and am pondering getting one of these:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=016042&cid=CR.405
I think it could be a good interim solution until Sony or whoever decides to market a Blu Ray player for a reasonable price. Plus I could enter all those HD DVD & Blu Ray disc IDs once support becomes available in profiler.
Has anyone used this or something similar? How was your experience? |

| Posted: | | | | Bought one about a month ago for $300(US) and am quite happy with it. I plugged it in and it just works. It comes with PowerDVD Ultra, saving me the cost of upgrading to get BD/HD supprt. I haven't tried a DVD/CD in it because i never removed the existing drives.
I didn't have an HDCP-compatible graphics card at first so i was forced to 480p output which was still better than any DVD i'd seen on the computer. Upgraded the graphics card this weekend and now it rocks!
The drive was simple to install and works just fine. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | It's a great drive for an awesome price! Where else you gonna get a BluRay and HD-DVD reader for less than $300? I picked one up 2 weeks ago and I agree with tweeter -- it rockx!
EDIT: NOT a BURNER!!! | | | Peter

| Posted: | | | | Be carefull it is only a dvd burner, Blu Ray Rom reader, HD DVD-Rom reader! LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray HD DVD Combo Drive BD-R 6x/HD DVD-Rom 3x/16x DVD+/-R Lightscribe SATA W/Software Capable of reading Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, this LG drive however only writes to DVD media so if you're one of those early adopters looking for writing capabilities, the model to look out for is LG's GGW-H10N, which is able to write to Blu-ray discs while also read HD DVD-ROM | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | I picked up the BWU-100A Sony Blu-Ray writer during CompUSA's liquidation sales and it works well as a reader though I've yet to actually use it as a writer. |

The LG's GGW-H10N is the old model. The 20L is faster and has light scribe. I bought a LG GGC-H20L at Canada computers during the boxing day sale, the price has already dropped to $5 less then the sale price. Don't you just love computer prices It works great with BD, I don't have any HD DVD discs but if I see something I want in the bargain bin I might pick it up. | | | Tom. |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry for the mistake... the BD/HD drive that I did get is in fact the GGC-H20L which is NOT a burner. I was discussing DVD/BD/HD burners with a couple of my students while I was typing my previous post and must have gotten my fingers crossed. | | | Peter

I was discussing DVD/BD/HD burners with a couple of my students while I was typing my previous post and must have gotten my fingers crossed. Gasp, I missed this update while I was ordering mine ... I went back to double check, The confusion is that yes it will burn standrad DVD and DVD-DL, but not Blu-Ray or HD. I think I got the last one at Amazon.com for $257. Since I clicked thru my owm web site, I'll get a few dollars back, plus I took the AMazon Visa and got another $30 off (including a few sale-priced BD titles). Well, I was a bit confused, but it works out anyway becasue I just discovered that my Sony writer died in my HTPC - needed a replacement anyway!!!! Now I can see HD, BD, and burn regular DVDs all for the price of a bit more than Sony's BD read-only drive. Thankls for the heads-up, I got a great deal! | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | Well thank you for the feedback. The order has been placed and I guess I must now consider myself as having gone purple. The only question now is: Do I mix them in with my HD DVD titles? Or keep them segegated? | | | Last edited: by bob9000 |

I keep my blue and reds together, but I do have them separated from the rest of my DVDs. Mainly just because those thin cases get swallowed up on the shelf next to regular DVDs and made finding them difficult. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

| Posted: | | | | I've been keeping my red and blues seperated in my DVDP collection but now I'm debating putting them together because I don't plan on buying any more reds. |

| Posted: | | | | If you don't need the HD-DVD abilities you'd probably like Sony's BDU-X10S it's supposed to be under $ 200,- already. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Right, but keep in mind that Sony's unit is a Player only. I'm eagerly awaiting the LG unit I ordered from Amazon. I already received the BD titles I ordered. Can't wait. And it was only $257 BD player, HD player + DVD-RW. Not bad, if it works ... stay tuned .... Edit: Now down to $247, backordered though. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here.
