Windows 10 + HP Elite workbook 8730  NO internet connection  issues and problem solving:

1. Fresh Install of win 10 vs 1709 os build 16299 .. wifi internet connection works fine
2. day or a week or a month later  No connection..
3. try all the remedy's to get connected wireless connection with passwords and network locations
no connection
4. try drivers update  all reports newest version
5. connect Ethernet  no connection
6. connect hot spot off cell phone  no connection
7. reset network  reboot  no connection
8. device manager  remove /delete networks, reboot  network back  no connection
9. reset windows 10 save files ,,… Internet works  but only for a few days or weeks
10. reset windows 10  do not  save files  , internet works  but only for a few days or weeks

I can send printed files via the hub to printer in next room printer works wirelessly

Only option I have not tried yet is to remove format and install windows 8.1

There HAS to be something that is restricting connection..  some say it is the windows 10 updates  but wouldn’t that be widespread amongst others ?

My other PC with windows 10 same build works fine off of wireless, so do my  ipads and smart phones off of the modem  so modem not the issue ..

I have at this point taken the laptop and this issue to my local laptop repair shop whose motto is ‘ if we can’t fix no charge ‘  …

Will keep you posted ..

I have to ask, but when it happens, do you restart the router/modem and wait for it to completely reboot, then reboot your computer?

Seems to happen on laptops from time to time but removing the device in Device Manager, rebooting and Detect Hardware Changes usually cures it. But it seems like you have tried that. Could be a hardware malfunction. Also check that Wifi/wireless is enabled in BIOS settings.

It is unfortunate that the original problem has likely been obscured by all the tinkering. Be careful in interpreting the repair shop diagnosis. They might well be solving problems with the "cure" rather than the original problem. One example: sometimes having both the wired and wireless adapters enabled at the same time can cause conflicts. I've cured many of these situations by simply disabling the one you don't need, and double checking the IP4 properties of the other one. Bouncing back and forth between adapters without confirming the settings can be a nightmare.

If I may add my experience...  Back a year or so ago when Microsoft was encouraging upgrading to Windows 10, I decided to take the bait and upgraded my older-than-yours HP Pavilion Laptop.

After a few weeks of sluggish performance and inconsistent Wi-Fi connection, I re-formatted the hard drive and went back to the Windows 7 SP1 that it originally had.  Performance has been good again and no Wi-Fi issues ever since.

My guess is that Windows 10 generally works best with newer hardware specifically designed for Windows 10.

That would make me wonder how you were able to print wirelessly to a printer in the other room.

It is not uncommon for excessive heat to cause intermittent problems with marginal hardware. For example a clogged fan or CPU ventilation ducts could cause overheating of memory. How much memory is being used, hard drive utilization, and many other software and external factors affect how much power your laptop draws - which could lead to the mistaken impression that the software itself is the problem - when in fact it might be the effects of how the software is causing the laptop to generate heat. Moving the laptop, opening it up, reformatting the drive ... almost anything ... could lead to a temporary improvement.

I've had overheating to cause laptop intermittent shutdown, graphics card failures and other stuff - some of which went away after a good internal cleaning. If your wi-fi card has a marginal fault, the additional computing requirements of Windows 10 might be pushing it over the edge - wild speculation.

Oh, also make sure you set the advanced wi-fi adapter settings to NOT let the OS turn off wi-fi power.

But if the device works for an reasonable amount of time, then stops working and nerver starts again working until reinstallation of the OS, then it is definitly no hardware issue.

Hardware issues either vanish with reboots/cooldowns/whatever or remain over OS installations.

its still in shop (after 3 days ..)  so haven't had a chance to discuss with their technician, but my question of course is if it was the network adapter .. how is it after 4 times over the past 90 days  that a semi install or a clean install of win10 fixed the problem?  and also how is it I can print wireless to the router and which then directs the print to the printer in the next room .?  .

I realize too that a the laptop should be replaced with a new one .. but I like to work these devices to their death..!  and this is only a hospital visit for now ..

I tried to explain that sometimes it is not as simple of "it is this or that." There can be shades of grey, if a device is sick or defective in a way that leads to inconsistent results. And then there is the matter of the "driver," which controls the device. What you see is the result of the OS/driver/device interaction, any or all of which can have bugs or defects. Your repair shop should have enough spare parts lying around to rule out that possibility - just try a different adapter. And to add to the list of nasty possibilities, there are subtle BIOS and motherboard errors that can infect any machine - one unlucky cosmic ray hit, static electricity, etc. ...

If your results seem weird, it is likely that an equally rare or weird event is causing it. I like the fact that you are asking questions. Hopefully, somebody will think of something that leads to a solution.

Do you have the Intel Driver Update utility installed? The was an issue with the last version where a component process esrv_svc.exe would attempt to create hundreds of tcpip connections and would cause port exhaustion.

Run netstat from command prompts will show open network connections (netstat-b will show the associated executable), if it points to the above exe then uninstall the utility. Intel released a new version which limits the number of ports it can open to stop it happening.

If Wi-Fi works with your wireless printer but not with the Internet, then it could be your Internet connection that has the problem.  If you are using cable Internet then my guess is your cable modem is not functioning well, which could also be caused by bad cable connection in your neighborhood (which your cable company should fix for you for free).  The next time your Internet connection goes out, reboot your cable modem.  If the Internet comes back on, then you have the answer.  If this is indeed the case, then replacing the network adapter in your laptop will not fix it (which means you just wasted your money).

should also point out as it has only been 4 days .. the shop had to reinstall windows 10 again,, (he said for drivers etc ),, I have had luck with and up to a  30 day run of win 10 for the network card to always work..  I think he gave me 45 day warranty ..
