That would make people think a bit more before they write and also show us how the readers feel, what is acceptable and what isn't. A german PC hardware website has something like that for their commentary function to the news: | | | Last edited: by SpaceFreakMicha |

| Posted: | | | | I can see that as actually hurting or scewing the +/- votes. Someone who sees that a post already received a + may not cast a +. Likewise, if someone gets a - that is unwarranted, many may give it a + to counter. |

Amazon has this for reviews, and I think that's exactly where it belongs to show that x users considered this review to be helpful or inappropriate. A review is static a discussion is not, in a discussion it should suffice that an inappropriate post gets moderated, no need to show publicly how many users took offense. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! If you do a good work with self-moderation, you don't have to worry about if your "track record" is public. Same thing with the bans. If you behave, you don't have to worry about it. I see a lot of comments that the things doesn't work around here, but very little suggestions how to make things better and even less Invelos action/comments |

| Posted: | | | | Nothing, but we don't have a minus vote here. Sure, we have the red arrow, but that doesn't work as a negative vote as described above. It's a report to moderator button. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

And what is stopping them to do it now? Technically, nothing. That said, I for one would be even less likely to post anything at all in any forum topic here if each posting would show a counts of -/+. I don't need or want every post I make critiqued. If I posted something and it got no votes at all (most likely scenario for me), it would almost seem to me as if I should have just kept my 2 cents worth to myself since I apparently made no impression whatsoever on anyone. |

Yes, sure, and as long a I don't do anything illegal, I don't have to worry about the police collecting all my private data. The question in both cases is the same: Of what use might this be?? And in both cases I don't see anything good deriving from it. The reason why there are so little suggestions on how to improve things around here is quite simple: We don't have the power to improve anything here. All power is with Invelos! We might insist that they ought to use their self-established tools, but we can't force them to do so. We might even start mobs against unwanted users, but as long as they don't leave of their own accord, we have to live with them (and I'm using the plural intentionally). And by starting this mobs we'd lower ourselves to the level we are just trying to get rid of. The instruments we users have to improve the climate around here are only two: 1) The reputation system: Use it wisely, if Invelos isn't reacting on Red Arrows the instrument is a placebo, but it's still there. And at least you might feel better. ( ) 2) More important: Ourselves: We might wait for Invelos to take action, but this will most likely never happen. If they would have wanted to do something, they would have done this already. What WE can do is: Watch ourselves! Avoid to write anything that you wouldn't want to read (especially not if it was directed at you). If we'd all do this, a lot would have been achieved, sadly this is only likely to happen in Utopia. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! It's a report to moderator button. Agreed. The +/- system is just another way of ganging up on users you don't like. Some people will use it just to give a user a bad rating regardless of what the post contains. What this forum needs, what it has always needed, is clear and consistent moderation. It is a business forum and should be treated as such. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. No +/- or points system can replace a real moderation. The actual option of giving green and red arrows is nice (and shouldn't be removed IMHO), but it is only a helpful addition to a real moderation. | | | Last edited: by SpaceFreakMicha |
