while reading this total thread I would like to mention the following:

I just updated from version 2.4 (with good performance in the search engine) to the new version 3.0.2

I did not change the number of DVDs in my collection which is about 650. So this might be a problem with the new version and/or new database structure. I did not change my hardware nor size of DVD collection.

OK I got it & will install version 3.0.3 which is available since May 26.

So everybody can confirm that this problem is already solved with the brand new version?

I havn't had that problem with 3.0.3 build 1136.

well I updated to vers. 3.0.3 wich is a little faster than 3.0.2 but not at all comparable with vers. 2.4

Still have to wait half a minute ....

good remark but as I am trying to get access from Germany normally not my problem. We have a 6 hours time shift to any US-Server so I am sleeping when you people try to connect

Actually, your local PC can be seriously affected by the paging file and the amount of virtual memory you have set aside.  If your hard drive is reasonably full, say 50%, and you have not kept the drive defragged on a regular basis, that will cause your paging file to be fragmented.  The amount of contiguous free space also affects how efficiently VM and the page file work.

One thing I discovered recently is that if you have XP (and I assume Vista is similar) set up by default to create restore points, I can almost guarantee that your drive is a lot more fragmented than you think it is, even if you run a defragger religiously.  Running at the default settings for that I could not get the frag level below 35%.  I fixed things by turning off restore points, completely defragging the drive (it instantly went down to .3%, and then turned it back on at the lowest possible setting it could use and still be working.  Average frag level is now about 3.5%, and I have a much bigger contiguous area than before.  Everything runs faster, and I no longer get "Low on Virtual Memory" warnings when I'm doing heavy multitasking.

I'm suffering from this really slow input prob when adding a new DVD too. I've got the region coding set to all and only about 600 movies in the data base. I've been around to my friends who is on the same version of dvd profiler as me (3.something), he's running it on a slower PC and has double the amount of movies in his database yet his typing input is instant when adding a new DVD!

I'm wondering if I unistall my dvd profiler and redownload it will this make anydifference? if I did this would I be allowed use the same key number or do I have to buy a new one?

Tools>Options>Display>Auto-expand box sets>off

Mine runs the same way, with auto expand off it speeds up by 90 seconds to a minute and a half.... almost like its a complete different system.
