well before I did it with 2 different movies and in both it opens up the page with the trailer in the notes window and starts the trailer....Just did it again with another movie and it does again

this is what i wrote in notes, try it yourself....

<a href="http://www.scope.dk/film.php?id=4425&fil=6">Trailer</a>

Edit: At first i wanted a link, but you tell me the link can't open up the page in firefox, so now I just use the above and watch it embedded in the notes window, it's fine for me

I just tried this and indeed it does  open in the notes field... this must be something that changed in the upgrade (possibly to 3.0) since I do know it used to open in IE for me for all the links I used to have in notes.

Ok, so i've tried the youtube/googlevideo thing. And it works if i put in the link to spiderman 3 trailer you posted.... <videos youtube=Trailer@szh5ZsAcgJU />

but how do I add other videos from youtube and googlevideo then?
If i, for axample want to add this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pki6jbSbXIY?

and can i add other videos from other sites, for eample IMDB or some the sites they refer trailer too?

for the other video...

you just take the ID from the address and replace it with the one in notes... The ID is shown in bold below...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pki6jbSbXIY?

so instead of...
<videos youtube=Trailer@szh5ZsAcgJU />

You would use...

<videos youtube=Trailer@Pki6jbSbXIY? />

As for other sites at this time you can only use youtube, Googlevideo & Videodetective..

So for youtube... you use...
<videos youtube=Trailer@Pki6jbSbXIY? />

For googlevideo you use...
<videos googlevideo=Trailer@Their code />

for videodetective you use...
<videos videodetective=Trailer@Their code />

I'm using this method to link to a file on my network by putting the following text into the notes section:

<a target="_blank" href="\\server\dvd movies\[film title].avi">play this movie</a>

Is there any way I can add the above text automatically to every DVD? Then all I'd have to do is edit the film title, or is there a way to add that automatically with a field or something?

As long as the avi file is called exactly the same as the profile's title in Profiler, then it should be possible to create a HTML window that creates a link automatically.
I'm at work at the minute, but will have a go tonight if no one else posts first.

Edit: I've just thought I could cannibalise another piece of code

<HTML>
<HEAD>

<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript">
<!--
<DP NAME="HEADER_VARS" Language="JavaScript" Comments="True" IncludeCast="False" IncludeCrew="False">
//-->
var playlink = "\\\\server\\dvd movies\\"
playlink = "<a href='" + playlink + DP_Title + ".avi'  target='_blank'>Play Movie</a>"
</SCRIPT>

</HEAD>
<BODY>
<script>
document.write(playlink)
</script>

</BODY>
</HTML>

Please note this is completely untested.
Edit: minor adjustment - it should now work.

Thats fantastic, thanks. A good percentage of the titles will match the file names and then I can just tidy up the rest.

This is not just a gimmick too. My son is autistic and can't read, he remembers films from their covers. I had no choice but to archive all my films and put the covers away because of lack of space which meant I was having to find each disk for him. Now I can set him up a media PC and install DVDProfiler. He can scan through the database and just click the link when he finds the film he wants to watch.

Hi all,
Firstly l would like to say a huge thanks to all who have given advice so far on how to setup, viewing a trailer from the chosen dvd in dvd profiler. Now l am going to make most others here look super intelligent and forgive me if l'm asking crazy things, however l would be ever so appreciative if someone could step me through adding a trailer...step by step. I have tried adding the required entry into the notes section, l have selected the tick box in options (html in notes ? etc) However l still cannot add anything into notes. Therefore if someone wouldn't mind helping this dumb aussie, l will be ever greatful.
So my questions are
1) How to add entry into notes section
2)I have a large collection of trailers that l have saved on my external hard-drive. say drive f, which for no l have downloaded. an example is you,me and dupree.
3)I would like to create a link in the notes section that will pin-point the downloaded trailer and allow me to play it, if possible within dvd profiler?
If anyone can help me and advise me on the steps in as much detail as possible l will be forever thankful and if at all possible, maybe buy you a beer or two someday.
I look forward to hearing back from anyone.
What l have read to date, sounds amazing and l look forward to the results.
Cheers everyone and l hope that you all have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year

John

The Notes section is available via the Personalise section of the profile. There are a number of ways of accessing it:
Select the profile and press Ctrl+P
Double click the profile to open the Edit window. Personalise is the bottom tab.
Right-click on the profile and select "Personalise"

I'm at work so can't check this bit, but in order to create a link in Notes, you swtich on html in notes (sounds like you've already done that) then type into notes something like:

<a href="xxxxxxxx">Open Trailer</a>"

Just replace the "xxxxxxx" bit with the link to the trailer. For example: "F:/Trailers/You Me and Dupree.avi"

I think that should work. Though if you have a lot of trailers you may want to look into an HTML window which does something similar, but automates the link creation so you don't have to type in each individual trailer address. I'll post a link if I find the thread.

This thread, with the code on page 5 gave me all the help I needed.

Hi...

I've been able to get 'Addicted2DVD' s instructions to work perfectly. Thanks.

Before going through all entered DVDs to add the correct reference of the youtube or googlevideo trailer to Personal Notes, I thought it might make sense to actually save the trailer on my local disk in order to avoid having outdated links sometime in the future and link to the file.

I found the site: http://www.hd-trailers.net pretty handy for downloading trailers (in .mov format).

Question: how would I have to tweak the html code to play the local file instead of the youtube location? (Basically, I like playing the video in the DVD Profiler HTML window better than opening a new IE window to play the movie [got that working with <a target="_blank" href=.....]

Best regards & Happy New Year...

Hi Mike,

thanks, that's what I was looking for (didn't get it to work yet, but I'm checking my local setup, must be something with file extension, as it's trying to play the movie in windows media [even with .mov being associated with quicktime]).

I guess the following script addition would be my next 'wishlist' to enhance this:

1) search for local file and play trailer in the trailer html window if available

2) if not found locally, then use the youtube/googlevideo script that plays the trailer (in the trailer html window) if personal notes has the link defined, or else display the 'search youtube or google video' link [which the script is already doing].

So just add some code that prioritizes local files and only connects to youtube trailers if the trailer is not downloaded...

Anybody already done this?

I dont believe so but that would be awesome! You cant find a lot of the trailers online for a locall collection but you can find them on Youtube.
