All user generated content would be in the "My Documents"-folder. I can't see anything wrong in this.

The problem - for me at least - is that my concept of backup is broken.

DVDP is an Application which provides mechanisms to backup and restore data - as many other applications and every database do it. These mechanisms are superior to OS backups since they provide database integrity and cleanup functions as well. For these applications I use base data directories far out of my OS backup path and do destinate their backup files WITHIN my OS backup path. This results in constantly backing up the eg. DVDP backup files onto tapes, but leaving the DVDP database directories alone.

But as long as the database files are located within the main user data directory it is backed up to tape directly, which takes a very long and slow process, since there are thousands of small files to be streamed out to tape...

BUT, it is possible to store the databases outside the My Documents folder. You can move databases to which directory you ever want; you can open it with DVDP and you can tell vista to leave the directories alone - especially if they are on different hard disks. This only leaves a small data structure within the My Documents folder containing the reports, translations and so on - this data is not backed up by the DVDP database backup tools and therefore it is best located within the My Documents folder...

And, last not least, I prefer the way Invelos handles this now, because the user who takes care of his data has the option to spread it wherever he wants, and the user who does not care leverages at least the backup and security options the OS provides - by placing the files within the My Documents folder, which is the correct way Microsoft wants data to be handled...

Regards, AA

I can't believe that - it would be incredibly dumb ... think what your computer would look like if every application did this!

I can, and they are called roaming profiles with limited space. Worst ones are OnlineListSel.dod and OnlineList.dod inside C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\DVD Profiler. It's ridiculous that user cannot deside where to locate these files.

Just move your MY Documents to the separate partition. Then all the data would be together.

But that's exactly what I don't want. I don't want anyone to force me into using this stupid standard folder instead of my carefully structured system. My system is better and it also doesn't break backups.
