Indeed, and self control got the better of me, so I ordered the new (at least for Europe) Panasonic DMP-BD30.

Now if Panasonic would actually supply the units... none of the retailers currently have any on stock

Thanks, nice to know I made a good choice. I hope it won't take too long to get delivered. My TV is only HD ready, but it should be a major improvement anyway.

If Blu-Ray wants to push Hi-Def content into the mainstream, with hopes of succeeding the DVD, then raising the prices on new hardware is not the way to go!!!  Confusion over profile 1.1 or 2.0 (blah blah blah) is easily overcome with competitive pricing versus upscaling DVD players!!!  I don't think anyone is asking Blu-Ray to suddenly release sub $200 standalone players, however raising the current prices does seem counterproductive!!!

That said I am noticing increased prices across the board on many electronics.  Been in the market for a new 1080P DLP television and despite the upcoming new models hitting the retail stores this spring, previous models are going up or staying the same MSRP!!!   

Don't know where you live, but here in the U.S., with the dollar continuing to sink, prices of electronics (mostly made abroad) are bound to be heading up!

BTW, "Blu-ray" does not control the price of anything and Sony only controls the price of their own products.

I do not believe that manufacturers of Blu-ray players or discs have any intention of trying to compete with standard DVD.  HD DVD tried that and you can see where it got them.

If you can't afford to get into the hi-def DVD market, stick with SDVD.  Your choice.

I wonder if some of these submissions are in jest or the sender is just ignorant! Get real you guys. Sony has just fought and won a bitter war. Toshiba is said to have lost a billion dollars. Sony is probably not much better but they do have a future. There is still stock out there of hardware and software that was rushed to market and is being discounted if you look. Sony and other manufacturers need to make a profit on the better stuff so prices will go up a bit until volumes grow. The US ecenomy is in a mess and the dollar way down so of course imported electronics will go up. 10-15% is actually very reasonable. Dont blame Sony, blame those stupid banks who lent out so much unsecured housing loans! The anti Sony talk is rediculous. They are as entitled to make a decent profit as the oil companies or Microsoft and Sony products have a long history of quality manufacture. Give them a break, they deserve it and I like their products. If you dont then dont buy them, you have that choice, but some of this foolish talk needs to grow up!
