The article was interesting.

But: "Star Wars" would fall into this criteria. So why hasn't Fox released it yet. Especially the new ones. They would surely not need a lot of work. So it would even be a cheap release and they would surely become the bestselling Blu Ray Titles.

I think it's still a mystery why they chose some titles and others have to wait

For Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, it will be George Lucas who decides, and not Fox or Paramount respectively.

I would have to agree with cvermeylen that Mr. Lucas does get the final say so, since LucasFilms actually own the films, while Fox just distributes. Now if Fox did own the films, they would have been out already. I don't see why Lucas didn't have them released this summer or fall, with Star Wars: Clone Wars coming to theatres in August and Cartoon Network as a series.

In addition to Live Free of Die Hard (my #1 pick), I would add Moulin Rouge and Amélie.  I think both of those movies would really shine.

Maybe I misunderstand, but there is no need to request Live Free or Die Hard to be released on Blu Ray, it's been available since last November. Seperately and as part of the quadrilogy.

The PG-13 version is available on Blu-ray.  The unrated version is DVD only.  I've read all the reviews and comparisons and I say it's just not Die Hard with a softer spoken John McClane.  Until Fox gets around to the double-dip, the DVD is outstanding.  But I'll gladly upgrade at the earliest opportunity.

Doh, of course I had read about that, Mark. Thanks for giving my brain a reminder that it's forgetting way too many things.

After your comments I have to agree also. If you remember George Lucas held out years and years before releasing the old Star War's on DVD. They were available in a Laserdisc Box (which I still have) many years before he finally made them available on DVD.
That's for Star Wars.
With Indiana Jones I would say that Spielberg has something to say too and he is always one for new technologies. (Which actually Lucas is too but not when they include making his stuff public). I guess he wants to still sell a lot on DVD and then release 'em on Blu when the DVD Sales really die down so that he can make twice the money. Greed rulez!

It seems that I am really not alone with my wish for a unrated "Live Free or Die Hard" on Blu Ray. I just watched the DVD again last week. It's excellent. But I don't even wanna imagine how great it would sound in DTS HD Master quality and how great it would look with 1080p picture.

Initially Fox cited time problems as a reason for not releasing the unrated version on Blu Ray. I would figure they had enough time by now.

The only problem Fox had was if they released it on Blu-ray, then they wouldn't get the double dip on it.  They're among the very best at releasing crap versions of a film, then releasing a nice deluxe edition 6-12 months later.  They can say whatever they want, but their history with DVD gives them no credibility.

They didn't start doing that with DVD's. I remember buying the US Laserdisc of Speed. It featured Dolby ProLogic Sound (Even though DD was already well established). Then, like you said, 6 month later they release an edition that featured DD (or AC-3 as it was called back then) Sound.

Still, I bought the unrated DVD of "Live Free or Die Hard" and will buy the unrated Blu Ray too. If they release it in Europe. Sadly all US Blu Ray's of Fox are Area Coded. Another big minus point for my friends at FOX.

I don't normally double dip on things, but I'll make an exception for Die Hard.  At least I got the DVD before I had the Blu-ray player.  Otherwise I would still be waiting.

There's been rumors of a new DVD release of True Lies for years now.  I don't know what James Cameron is up to.  That and The Abyss are desperately in need of new DVD releases (and Blu-ray).  He must have something in his contract that he needs to be involved in some fashion.  I can't think of any other reason these haven't been updated.  I think I've seen an Abyss thread at one forum or another at least once a month for the past 5 years or so.

I actually was pretty happy with my British DVD of True Lies. The US one was already OOP when I tried to get it. And as opposed to VHS the DVD was uncut despite having a 15 rating there.

Also Abyss would really make a great Blu Ray. You are totally right.

I'd really wish for "Blues Brothers" to be released on Blu Ray. With True HD Sound. That would be heaven

So would I and I wouldn't mind seeing Blues Brothers 2000 released also on BD. I know some people don't like the story or lack of, but to me "it's all about music."
