PS4 now... hopefully PS5 later.

Just in case you didn't know, PS4 won't play UHD discs (but the upcoming PS5 will)

I think one of the biggest things that affects how much of a difference UHD makes is how far from your TV screen you watch from.  I have my 65" TV about six feet from where I sit.  If you hang your TV on the wall at the other end of a big room from where you sit then you may as well just continue to watch DVDs, as you'll probably be missing out on a lot of the improvements UHD and HDR makes.  (The opposite is true if I watch DVDs, as I have to accept that the picture is going to look a bit blurred at that distance, although I don't really find it distracting; and you can only imagine the visual horror that watching a VHS is!)  I've even got a special pair of specs that I wear just to watch TV that makes sure the focus is in the right place.  The great thing is that viewing distance doesn't cost anything.

Are you thinking of going down the Atmos route for the sound?  I've a 5.1.4 system and it does sound nice, but it's not a Superman sized leap from a decent non Atmos system and there aren't yet a huge number of Atmos titles available.  Having said that, I have neighbours that probably don't share my enthusiasm for hearing aliens blown to bits every other evening, so the volume you can watch at probably makes a significant difference too.

However, I'm glad I took the opportunity to get into UHD when I had a bit of money to enable me to do so.  The quality on disk does seem to be noticeably better than the streamed version.  It's enjoyable to revisit films you already know to see them in a new way too.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I've got this 75" Vizio hanging approx 15' from the watching point (sofa) and it's very comfortable to watch & game on. The 65" I replaced it with was barely comfortable watching TV & movies but not to game with.

Keeping in mind, that the human eyes provide a resolution of about one angular minute, you have to place them nearer than the display measures...
HDR is the only difference you can practically gain.

Is it just me, or does "Sausage Party" sound like the title of an adult movie (with an all male cast)!?
The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson)

I've had to go and buy a copy of Sausage Party for myself now.  After such a build up it was just too much to resist.  (Second hand on BD.)
