I personally like square corners, by filling in, not cropped. I have always done it this way.

It depends for me. I generally leave them rounded unless they don't look particularly good for whatever reason. In those situations I'll clone the surrounding area and blend them in.

Anything but cropped.
I know most like them painted in, personally I think some look fine with round nubs, as long as they're better than what is and represent what they should, I'm fine with a little touch-up too.
In fact, I alternate my scans on purpose so as not to get locked in on one style. Not really, although I've got notes both ways, but the majority of notes are for not filling them in so I'm going to guess that is winning before looking and chiming in with my "don't care".

Return of the dead topics lately! Nice!

I always fill 'em in. Lots of programs out there have a fill option (copy, cut etc. etc.) that you can fill in rounded corners and have it look 100% natural.

Some are more complicated than others, but I have yet to run into a single submission where I've filled in the corners that someone objected.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Same, though very small preference would be to have rounded covers if that is what the covers have.

I might be mistaken on this.
I'm 100% positive I've got no votes for not filling them in, and pretty sure a time or 2 I got no for filling with notes like "mine has round corners". I remember thinking "Damn, what do ya'll want already? No matter what I do I can't win here." a few times and am pretty sure this was one those things that led to those thoughts.

Wouldn't filling in the corners be tantamount to inventing data?

I leave them as is.

Leaving the corners as is is also inventing data, since those pixels in the corner are not from the cover but from the background of the scanner which is usually whitish. If you put a black background behind the cover while scanning, those corners will be black. BTW using a black background for scanning is sometimes useful if otherwise the back side of the cover would be seen through the paper.

I usually prefer filled in corners. But I would not want to make them mandatory for other users.

This is kinda funny.  Normally Ken and Co. are sticklers for what you see is what it has to be, yet rounded corner inserts are allowed to be photoshoped to fill in the corners, to make them square.

In any event, I'm for the "what you see is what you get" camp.  If the insert has rounded corners, then the image should not be photoshoped to square.  The fill color should be white.  I agree with the use of black when scanning, IFF the insert is double-sided.  Then use PhotoShop the "fill" the black to white.

Why white and not black?  Printing.  When a report is printed, it will normally be on white paper.  The covers will then print as they look.  The background color used for viewing the databse on your computer can obviously be something other than white.  I personally do not care if the squared off corner is white.  When printed I certainly do not want black corners.  That will look like crap.

My 2 cents.

Why not switch to a format that can handle transparency such as PNG? Just kidding!
