But you can't really fault the guy who created the program (his only job by the way) from expecting fair payment for his hard work.  That's not really fair to him or his family.

Let's see.........$30 per person, and how many thousands of people? You call that fair? I call that trying to get rich of his customers! I can't afford to make him rich.

If you have felt the need to come onto these forums  and express yourself you are clearly upset about losing this software.

Yes, I liked the software ok, but I don't love it. I had gotten comfortable with it. The BEST software/site of this kind, was Guzzlefish. It was ten times better than profiler. You could also list cds and games on it. Guzzlefish was easier to use also. It suddenly disappeared one day. That's the only reason I ended up using Profiler.

I'm not going to one of the sites listed, and type in info again, for 600+ dvds (almost 700). The last dvd I bought from anywhere, was 4-5 months ago. It would take a very long time to save $30. Hell, by the time I saved it, the price would probably be $40.

That's ok. I'll live without it.
You guys enjoy making him rich. In fact, since you love him so much, why not donate a bunch of money to his "cause"? Y'all are so high and mighty with your money, and have your noses turned up so high in the air, if it rains, you're gonna drown!

Intervocative made a living, with Profiler being free.

Are you really THAT stupid? They made a living by giving something away for free?
Quote:
For years, I've used Profiler.

Funny, me too. But as I'm a premium-user since 2001 the 'new' business-model never affected me the slightest bit.

I have many, many hours of typing (slow typist) involved, to get all my dvds listed online.

How much time can you spent entering a 12-digit-UPC? You are aware how DVD Profiler works, are you?

So, all those many hours I've spent typing info, turns out to be for nothing!

Why "for nothing"? You still have the data, haven't you?

invelos is like everybody else.

Exactly. Like everybody else they want to live from their work.

You really should get a clue about Intervocative/Invelos. Easiest way would be to start with the posting Pinned: FAQ: Why the company change? in this forum.

Well, smartbrain, now make a wild assumption why they disappeared. My first guess would be: they ran out of money because of freeloaders.

"Thousands of people"? I suspect (I have no insight in the company) Ken has approx 1000 to 1500 buyers every year. I bought the program back in 2002 and never had to pay another dime since then. That makes an income of 30'000 to 45'000 dollars. One can hardly call that "becoming rich", especially with the site hosting expenses.

As I said I've used the program since 2002 and I paid 25$ back then, that makes 5$ a year and it becomes less every year.

If I win this week's lottery in germany (38 million euros / 57 million dollars in the jackpot - the chances are 1:137'000'000) then I would call myself rich.

Well, just for the sake of argument, how much per person do you think he should get?  Enough to work out to $100,000 per year?  How about $50,000 per year?  How about $20,000 per year?  Should he perhaps give it away for free and go work at McDonald's?  What would you call fair?  I'd honestly like to know.

I played with Guzzlefish and it was interesting.  In my opinion, this is still the better program, but that's just me.  For the record, Guzzlefish went away because it's author sold it.  Probably for a huge profit.  It was the company that bought it that ran it into the ground.

The only suggestion I have left is to sell a few DVDs to come up with $30.  I too have about 600-700 DVDs.  I don't know about your collection, but I could easily find 10-20 in my collection I wouldn't miss if I wanted the $30 badly enough.

But if you have a problem paying the $30, and you have no interest in the other free options available to you, then I have nothing else to offer.  And I fail to see why you're wasting your time here.  If you really want to complain that badly, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on Contact Us and voice your complaints directly to the person responsible.  I don't see why you're involving all of us if you're not honestly looking for a solution to your problem.

You're the better person than I am Jim.  That thought actually crossed my mind initially, but further posts changed my mind.  I've done nothing but try to help and to get called nasty names for it just took all the holiday spirit out of me.  Not to mention I'm starting to suspect it's just someone trying to get everyone worked up.  I think I'll spend my time elsewhere instead of playing the game.

Very nice gesture. You truly have the spirit of the season in mind.

@ emoxley - there are many of us who have financial difficulties just as there are others who seemingly have endless resources. Bottom line, if this is you LINK you have 671 DVDs (at your last upload). Had you purchased the program, using your $4.00  per DVD price, you would still have 663 DVD plus you would actually be supporting the program. I'm sure there are 8 movies there you could have done without.

I suggest you take eaglejd up on his offer. It's probably the best you'll get.

Thanks, but no thanks. I've finally seen what this software has done to people. It's made people here, holier than thou, and has made me say things I normally wouldn't say to folks. It turned me into an a-hole here too, I admit. I'd rather say stuff like this to people's faces, if I'm going to say it at all. I saw how most were, with the original poster, and knew you were going to talk crap to me too, so I started it off talking crap myself. It's so easy for people who work and have money to spend, to talk crap to people who don't. I honestly hope that those of you, with the holier than thou attitude, experience what me and others have to live with. You would become even bigger a-holes, when you saw people jumping on somebody that's less fortunate. I was being an a-hole towards a business. You were being a-holes to individuals! Big difference! I supposed none of you has ever bitched at or about a business, that you felt did you wrong? Let him/her cast the first stone.

I don't think I'm out of line though, for expecting something free, to stay that way. They got people hooked on the free software, and then start charging for it. That's how drug pushers work. Give a few free samples, and when they're hooked, start charging them. There has been, and probably still is, sites/software that's free, but has ads. You can pay, and be ad free. It's an option, not a requirement! That's what needs to happen here. If you can afford to buy, good, buy it. If you can't afford it, live with ads. He'd probably make more selling ads anyway.

BTW..........I don't have two copies of Star Wars: Episode 1. I have no idea how that got there twice. That's happened before with another movie. I'm not selling any movies. If I didn't want them, I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. It would take too long to replace them. The only movies I have two copies of, are the Lord of the Rings movies (theatrical and extended editions).

I came here, and sent an email. I like the forum atmosphere, usually. But I don't like THIS forum atmosphere. Too many holier than thous here. You can thank me now, for leaving you to wallow in your superiority!
You folks have a nice Christmas, if that's possible

Feel free to return to the free vesion 2 though note that the version 2 database is no longer being updated so you'll have to type in all of the information yourself for anything not in the version 2 database.

Hmmm.  I wonder how a freeloader who has "zero income" managed to acquire 663 DVDs?  Legally?  Or did he rip THEM off, too?  And he has the nerve to call honest people "a-holes."

If you've been reading all the posts, it sounds like he's picking them up very slowly.  And he's really going after the bargain discs (I believe he says he pays about $4 for his movies).  Plus he says he's been out of work for two years.  It's no stretch to imagine that he amassed most of his collection before his injury.  I don't think it's fair to assume that he's got a collection of pirated material based on what he's told us.

True, Mark, and I apologize to him for the inference.  However, his attitude makes it hard to be very sympathetic.

The software hasn't done anything to any people. People are people and do whatever they want to do on their own. So, don't make excusses.

I will still do it for you or you can just shut up and move on. There is no need for you to go on and on.
