I see that Microtek lists a dealer in Vancouver BC where a hands on demo can be done. Terry, isn't that your neck of the woods, hie thee to the dealer with a reflectie cover and report your findings.

I'm not sure, but I think that the word reflective in the scanner specs means any object which is not transparent. Eg. my scanning software gives me two options for the originals: reflective and transparency. Unfortunately in this case the word reflective has nothing to do with the word reflective in the thread subject.

I am not sure, jykke. I have done some checking on this today and some of commentary i have seen seems to support your comments while others may not. Perhaps the best answer is for terry to get himself to the dealer in his area and see if he can do a test for all of us. If there was a dealer in my area I would be in my car in the morning to run several test scans. If we are looking at an $700 or $800 scanner we want it to do the job.

There are also several which might be in 8ball's neighborhood, LA, SF, Palo Alto. The closest one to me is 5 hours, and i have no trips planned to new York or Columbus, OH.

Reflective and Transmissive targets are calibration aids for the input device. The Reflective target is for things like our DVD covers, photos and documents while Transmissive targets are for transparencies. They are used to create ICC profiles for input devices such as scanners and Digital Cameras. I doubt this scanner would do any better at scanning highly reflective objects.

OK.. just got off the phone with the dealer here that handles this and other Microtek products.,  explained what it was 'we'  are trying to do and his suggestion(s) was that this expensive scanner would not do any improvement over what a $100 scanner can do currently.., BUT he did suggest something that would work and it is a product called Kylon Dulling Spray

He said you just spray it on the surface of the jacket and it is easy to clean off again,, and will not damage the surface of the material.. Arts and crafts stores would carry it..
Cost ??  His cost here was $6.99 Canadian and probably .99 cents American

I would say your best bet in finding it would be Craft/Hobby related stores or a Paint store. Krylon is carried by Sherwin-Williams.

That's why I think the anti-reflective lens coating on the Epson V750 may produce the same results as the Krylon...but then, maybe not. I'd love to test drive it .

I have an older version of that Microtek, I don't an expensive scanner is the answer.
To get this to work or at least try to work on my present pc and vista, I have down load 13 files. Plus buy a SCSI card or take one out of an old pc. I don't know all that will work. Not count making space for the hog.

I think its SRP was about $1500. I worked a deal as part of a new pc package and Adobe InDesign software. Other wise I would never have got it. I got the thing to copy film. Back when I was using it I can remember any shinny DVD covers.

If you're asking about the Microtek, I'm not going to bother. I'm sure it won't do any better than my current scanner.

Epson doesn't provide a list of retailers, so I don't know where one might be available to try.
