| Posted: | | | | Low budget or not, it's the WGA that sets the rules on how writers credits are given out. Unless there is evidence that this movie didn't follow the WGA rules, we need to assume that they did for consistency's sake. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting hal9g: Quote: But WGA rules really have nothing to do withthe way we enter credits in DVDP. Yes, that's true. But we were discussing a case that wasn't covered by the rules AND where the original plan would have been in violation of the rules, so we were trying to figure out the best way to do it. I was just providing a real life point of view by pointing out that certain credits have a specific meaning, not commenting on the rules themselves. Now, my personal opinion is we should be matching EXACTLY the WGA rules because that would make things most simple, but that's another discussion entirely. |

For consistency sake we have one definition for Written by, not maybe this or maybe that depending on arcane circumstances determined by some guild. The problem the user ran into was that he wanted to apply multiple definitions to Written by.

| Posted: | | | | Quote: For consistency sake we have one definition for Written by I don't know who "we" are that you're referring to, Skip, but the rules actually have two definitions, one in the "Credited As" column and another in the "Notes" column. There is nothing to indicate which one has priority other than user interpretation. Unless Ken indicates differently I'll accept the majority view, but don't tell me that the rules only have one definition. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Don't press it further, you are beginning to bring me very close to a very personal jibe. That's the way it is, taht's the way it has been from day ONE...DEAL WITH IT

Skip Skip, I understand we have our rules, and I certainly do not condone violating those rules because that's what's supposed to maintain our sanity. I just feel that we should conform our available credits listings to guild credit rules (which we can't do now due to the limited credits we have) because, well, 99% of all new releases, at least in the U.S., are going to conform to those guild's rules and there's a good chance that it would cover most non-guild conforming releases as well. Again, I'm just stating an opinion about what's missing in our current system (just like in the "theme by" discussion). |

Skip Since the rules have changed several times over the years there's no way for me to know if the previous discussion was made under the exact same rules, e g if the note for Writer section was there. Skip Everyone except you seem to acknowledge that the note contradicts the Credited As column. I have said that I will abide by the majority interpretation. Why is this not good enough for you? Are you looking for a fight...? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Everyone except you seem to acknowledge that the note contradicts the Credited As column. I have said that I will abide by the majority interpretation. Why is this not good enough for you? Are you looking for a fight...? GSyren, Skip know what he wants the rules to say, so he reads them that way. You can point out as many others have that the notes in the writers section just add confusion, but Skip just wont hear you. This is a trap that we all can fall into, which is why you should always have someone else proof-read your works if you can. You know what you were trying to say, so you read it that way. Skip will see this as an attack, but it is not, I am just pointing out something that we can all fall pray to. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

Everyone except you seem to acknowledge that the note contradicts the Credited As column. I have said that I will abide by the majority interpretation. Why is this not good enough for you? Are you looking for a fight...? No, I am not, gunnar but as usual you appear to be. the notes issue has also been discussed NUMEROUS TIMES and explained. As I said i am not responsible for either yoyr desire to be confused and confuse others in the process or for your total failure to keep up with theses issues. I have also stated that were it up to me I would have corrected the Note problem long ago. But the meaning and the way it has been done has NOT CHANGED in THREE years regardless of your confusion and failure to follow the discussions, same holds for you , Paul. It doesn't change just because you have wandered into it and want to make an issue of it AGAIN some more and stll. Paul as foyour reference to me reading it as i want to...preciselly what involvement did you have in the Ruules...NONE sir...you know NOTHING about them, whayt they mean or even why things were done, nor do wish to listen, either of you, you wish instead to apply your garbage to them which will be nothing but a mess. I have also stated numerous times that rules are no more difficult than an individual user wants to make them, some of us want to make them difficult if not impossible to understand by blowing smoke, some of them have only one wish to argue with people who did the work, others like to retend that despite their total lack of involvement that they know more than those who were involved. Paul. your comments certainly read like an attack, BTW, as usual. As to an attack on the rules, my options are limited here, I certainly don't think that people here are stupid and can't grasp simple concepts, yet some of them behave lkike they are and arguewhen it is attempted to be explained, since I don't wish to think anyone is stupid, the i must conclude they are indeed attacking the rules for whatever their motives and tyhe nature oif those attacks do not usually appearto be innocent in nature...I wish they were. BS! I have been a user here and at IVS just as long as you Skip. In that time I have always followed the rules and/or guidelines. I am a person that like films from other part of the world, ~1/3 of my collection is in languages other than English. The rules and their 'Hollywood' bias fall short in dealing with some of the issues that come up with non-English credits. You have never been appointed by Ken as an interpreter of the rules. Your opinion is just like every other user here; an opinion. Quote:

Skip We have many users here for which English is not their main language. In cases where the rules are not clear to English speakers, they can be a nightmare for non-English speakers. If we add in films that have their credits in languages other than English, entering the crew can be a big challenge! Once again, you have never been appointed by Ken as an interpreter of the rules. The ONLY thing you can voice is your OPINION with no basis, you have no background knowledge of ANY kind. In short, paul, you don't know JACK.

Skip And what relevence does that have to this discussion? NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zip, ZERO, NADA. If the rules aren't clear, they aren't clear - you can't expect every single user to have background knowledge. |
