... he is correct, you can't search with disc id in the add DVD dialogue. The disc id search only works when searching your collection.

Then what does the "by Inserted Disc" tab in that dialogue do?

...it searches by Dsic ID

... And works only if you have (at least) a DVD-ROM drive, so forget this for Android or iOS apps.

And since you all state that the search for Disc-ID works:
Which profile has Disc-ID F30E4BD58A067C02?

EDIT:
But I'm giving up, since obviously my brain capacity is too limited to understand even the most basic functionality of this program, I will not insist any longer.
Do whatever you like, after all this database (and the resulting mess) is user-created.

For the major relief of many I will try my best not to participate in Contribution rule discussions anymore.

Bye from here.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I should have been clearer in my previous post - one can only search by disc id if the title is in your collection.

As far as I know there isn't any other way to access that information.

It's a shame, because you know, when you're not slinging insults over idiotic s**t or being petty or sitting way up there on your throne, you can actually contribute to a conversation. Unfortunately, when you start acting like you did in this thread, no one wants to listen to you anymore, and for good reason.

So... bye.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Only Ken can say with any certainty but I presume it searches for titles entered by disc id or the disc id entered in the relevant section of an EAN profile. Both of which require you to have the disc and a blu-ray/dvd rom drive to hand.

However the conversation was about manual searching for disc id, which is not something you can do.

Which is really all we need. Either you have a DVD- or BD-ROM to use that function, or not. And if you don't, you wouldn't have the Disc-ID for a search to begin with.

Exactly, which worked quite fine the last 10 years.

Because they are using an incorrect identifier that might be needed for another release that doesn't have a UPC/EAN.
That's how those contributions have a negative impact.

No, that's how it might have a negative impact so I still fail to see the point.
Quote:
Imagine a boxset that has a disc included that was previously released as UPC 000000000000, sadly this was a re-release so someone decided to submit it by Disc-ID.
Since the identical disc is now used for the boxset too the boxset-child suddenly has:
- Incorrect Release Date
- Incorrect SRP
- Incorrect Overview
- Incorrect Coverscans

So someone may now come up with the "First Release" beats it all.
But fact is that this "First Release" shouldn't have been submitted by Disc-ID in the first place since it HAS a UPC it can be identified with.

I don't have to imagine as this already happens with, what you would consider, valid disc ID profiles.  In fact, because I like to buy collector's editions, it happens to me all the time.
Quote:
A question comes up to those that want to submit Re-Releases with (IMO) incorrect identifiers:
Why not completely omit UPC/EAN and contribute all profiles only by Disc-ID?
At least this way some consistency may be achieved.

Because, for those people who purchase re-release titles, it prevents the situation you describe above.  Instead of being stuck with a profile that has an incorrect release date, an incorrect SRP, an incorrect overview, an incorrect cover scan, etc., they have a profile with correct information.
Quote:
EDIT:
Until then ask yourself:
When buying a new title that has a UPC/EAN would you even try to add it to your DVDProfiler-collection using the Disc-ID or would you go by UPC/EAN?
And if you would add by EAN/UPC, what would be the point of having a similar profile with Disc-ID as identifier?

I add by UPC and, if the profile does not match, I either search by title, pop the disc into my drive or create a new one.

Maybe I am dense, but I still fail to see the resulting mess.  While I will admit that some of our rules have the ability to create a mess, I honestly don't see it in this case.
