Rounded Corners or not... |

Leaving the corners as is is also inventing data, since those pixels in the corner are not from the cover but from the background of the scanner which is usually whitish. If you put a black background behind the cover while scanning, those corners will be black. BTW using a black background for scanning is sometimes useful if otherwise the back side of the cover would be seen through the paper.
I usually prefer filled in corners. But I would not want to make them mandatory for other users. I fill them in with the cloning (stamp) tool in Photoshop which allows for blending them in to what already exists and I am sure was in the original square photograph. Of course I would use the clone tool as well (albeit in GIMP a free alternative to Photoshop). I would never fill them in with black colour.  |

I was thinking of mentioning PSD format, but forgot about PNG supporting transparency. So, no kidding, being able to support PNG is a great idea. I agree. Why kid? I'd love to see transparency supported. Not just for little things like this, but for all those odd-shaped boxes.  |
