Um, he said:

"Dark City" has an 'R' rated version and an 'NR' version.  R > NR, therefore, the rating is 'R'.

"The Hangover: Unrated" has an 'R' rated version and an 'Unrated' version.  Unrated > R, therefore the rating is 'Unrated'

Repeat: That was only with option 1.  See this post for the results with option 2.

To complete my earlier example, if we go with option number 2.  The highest rating wins, as with option number 1.

"Dark City" has an 'R' rated version and an 'NR' version.  It was previously theatrically rated, therefore it is "Unrated".  Unrated > R, therefore, the rating is 'Unrated'.

"The Hangover: Unrated" has an 'R' rated version and an 'Unrated' version.  Unrated > R, therefore the rating is 'Unrated'

"Dora the Explorer" has only an 'NR' version.  Therefore the rating is 'NR'.

Ah, ok. Well, I don't understand the drawback of Option 2...

Weak. I've said on this board quite a few times that unrated and not rated are two different things before Ken's decision.

This is not a perfect answer, ken, but..perfect takes a program mod of some sort. The problem that i have with it as you are suggesting, to me Option 1 is no good at all, but Option 2 while better has us in effect dealing with fiction instead of data. Dark City: DC on DVD is NOT RATED not Unrated, now while I believe the two mean the same thing, you want to split them apart, and I understand the logic behind that idea      . I have an idea I am noodling a bit right now, but I am not ready to discuss it just yet, but it MIGHT be a better short term answer.

Who's bating now?

I can understand both sides, but I like the fact to distinguish between the two types.

I will say that although the results are currently tied, those who have posted reasons seem to be favoring option 2 pretty strongly.

Yes, if we have to go this step, option 2 does less damage imho.

Indeed. Ideally I'd much prefer using what's on the cover, but can live with that one.

option 2 works for me.

And I will say once again... I am still thrilled with getting this. I been wanting an Unrated and NR in ratings for years!

Why not convert to checkboxes, add unrated as an option and allow people to select more than one option?

It does sound like an option for the future. However, like some of the others suggestions, it would require a program change.

The one suggested by Ken can be implemented in the daily update.
