I'm sorry, I understand your point of view, but in no way can I consider that Who's Harry Crumb? is an alternate title for Who's Harry Crumb ?

However for credits we treat the following as alternate versions (made up example) -

John J. Jones Jr
John J Jones Jr
John J. Jones ,Jr
John J Jones ,Jr
etc....

Why is this any different?

Please note, I'm not saying I agree or disagree, only that if we treat one area as being different, why should another be treated as the same when it's an almost identical situation.

A better example may have been:

DW Griffiths and D W Griffiths - which I actually don't agree with either!

But in your example, I can (sort of) understand why they're treated differently, because the characters used are different: some have extra commas, some use full stops etc.

In this title, only the spacing has changed - and IMHO it's more of a case of a title designer getting a bit "funky" than it is to do with a different title.

This whole situation has been caused because of the insistence of trying to slavishly recreate what we see on screen rather than use our brains

Unfortunately, that "as on screen/as on cover" concept is at the origin of many situations that nobody would accept in normal life : typos in overviews, common names not matching with actors' real names, formatted crew roles that do not match with real roles (see "OMB/story by" thread...), not speaking of odd formatting (group dividers in credits, the most ugly feature of DVDProfiler...)

And the "Who's" is definitely smaller than the rest of the title so that makes it obviously a possessive credit. I propose the DVD title should be Harry Crump

But "Who's" is inside the quotes in the credit block, so we can keep this one

I have once been told we use the normal writing rules for origianal title also, so imho it has to be "Who's Harry Crumb?" without a space, even if there could be seen one in on-screen.

There could be titles on which the spase can't be seen this good, so there will be differences in original title. With using the normal writing rule, we would get the same title, no matter which assumption the user made.

@surfeur51: I still have holiday, so you won't see me this early.

On the other hand, we've recently been told that "rObErT dE nIrO" is an equally valid entry as "Robert De Niro", no matter what's on the screen, so we're clearly not too picky in every area...

The rule reads:
Quote:
For profiles which have an alternate title displayed on the cover, use the title from the film's credits.

I'm sorry, I understand your point of view, but in no way can I consider that Who's Harry Crumb? is an alternate title for Who's Harry Crumb ?

I have to agree with this.  For original title, we are not required, as we are for the title field, to duplicate the title format.  Because of that, I see no reason to create a difference where one doesn't really exist.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

If some are in the DB as "b ?" and others as "b?", the originakl title is supposed to link these together.  If they are not, then it throws the CLT numbers off.

For the CLT to work properly, they must point to the same common title.
