Lair gets low review score for motion controls

But, that's kind of funny when considering IGN and others previewed almost the entire game and said the controls were very responsive.

Kotaku GC '07 Preview of Lair...Controls Are Spot On

EGM gave Lair a 5.5 in a REVIEW, and that's the difference between previews (ie a journalist who has played a or seen a 2-minute demo of the game and has nothing else to write about that particular day) and reviews. The game is awful and only people like you will buy it.

As for the rest of your links, using Warhawk tech to evangelise the PS3 power is pretty tragic considering its such a bad looking game, I wont even bother saying more as I'd rather go play BioShock.

With the phenomenal reviews that Bioshock is getting I found myself checking gameranking.com's list of all Xbox 360 games and the kinds of reviews they've been getting, mostly to compare Bioshock's rating to other games I love.

I then had a peek at the same list for PS3 and Wii. And while what I discovered is obviously in large part due to the 360 having been out a year longer than the other two, I was still pretty surprised at these numbers:

There's 50 360 games rated 80 or better.
There's 14 PS3 games rated 80 or better.
There's 7 Wii games rated 80 or better.

I figured there'd be a difference, but not that big of a one.

And if you look at 90 or better, the list is 6 for 360, 1 for PS3 and 2 for Wii.

Nuts. In a year, it'll be interesting to see if the PS3 and Wii will have the numbers the 360 has now.

Oh, and I removed all the Xbox Live games from the list, since they're not really comparable to major releases and probably reviewed with a different scale in mind.

Here's the URL to their rankings, just modify the dropdown menus to see the different platforms:

PS1, PS2 and PS3 all suffer the same problem, Sony's lethargy in producing an effective SDK, but in the current generation, this issue has been magnified by the PS3 delays, the unfriendly cell architecture and the RSX's lack of power, and by Microsoft's improvements in the XNA platform, and its marketing and studio takeovers all resulting in a huge gaping chasm in difference of the quality of the relative catalogues.

At launch the 360 had some poor titles like PDZ, but some good ones like PGR3. Within the first few months there was Oblivion, GRAW, Fight Night and within a year we had Dead Rising and Gears of War.

The PS3 so far still hasn't bettered Fall of Man and Motorstorm, both of which are mediocre titles at best. The rest of the year doesn't look promising either with Heavenly Sword and Uncharted being the only exclusives of any interest. Ratchet and Clank,  WarHawk and Lair range from dull to dismal, and the only thing I'm looking forward to on my PS3 is MGS4.

There is no question that 360's year 1 beats PS3's year 1 and could well do the same in their respective year 2's, as Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock, Forza 2, Crackdown will be a tuff bunch of titles to beat. I hope the Sony platform can come back from this, as although the single games platform sounds like an ideal situation, MS + monopoly will never result in great things for the consumer...

I guess you played Lair, right?  Otherwise, you are showing parrot type behavior.  I know control systems usually don't radically change.  That's just on the side of common sense.  There are reviews that severely contrast.  Then, they reviewed an earlier build of Lair (since the game is not out yet).

Using Warhawk tech to evangelize the PS3's power?  What are you talking about?  You are not making sense.  Warhawk is a multiplayer game that many beta players say is more fun than Halo.  I will purchase that game.  If you want power, that is what Killzone 2, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Afrika, and Ratchet & Clank Future demonstrates.

Enjoy Bioshock.  I probably will, too.

It will be interesting indeed.  Xbox 360 had no competition for the first year of game releases.  I believe reviewers were really taken in with the graphics improvement which boosted scores.  I also believe it is the "in thing" to go after the PS3.  MS has a lot of "advertising" money to help make up people's minds about things.  I think next year that should change.  The US is the main place where this needs to be changed.  The rest of the world has already started to come around.  ...Just my thoughts.

There should be 115 PS3 Blu-ray games by the end of March 2008.  15 of these should be 1st party games.  Most of the rest will be on both consoles.  X360 has the advantage because all games for a year was only for 1 console.  One must look at that fact to fairly judge game ratings.  I think it will take at least 2 years to overcome that 1 year head start (basically 1 year of exclusive titles).

The PS3 was not ready to lauch last year. How can a system launch with no real games that actually push the PS3? If the PS3 launched this fall with the game lineup they have for the next 12 months, the numbers would be much more realistic. The 360's 1st year and the PS3 "1st" year would be almost the same, if not better. But Sony and their infinite wisdom chose to incorportate the PS3 as a Blu-ray/game console instead. Whch pushed the release of the PS3 back a couple of times. The risk is that the game system is 2 yrs behind the 360 as far as number of games released goes. I don't count the crap games that both systems have released, only look at the "Real" games, i.e CoD 2 & 3, GoW, Rainbow six, Forza 2, etc. From what i have read the first year of release of the PS3 games won't have but a that are worthy.

In a year from now look at the the numbers for Q4 07 and Q1 &2 for 08 and you will see a big difference. Assuming the PS3 sales start to improve. It was a gamble for Sony to release the PS3 without title support like they did, so let's see if it pays off.

Actually, the PS3 and Xbox 360 numbers are about on par for the same period of time.  Go take a look on VGChartz.com.  I believe the PS3 is slightly ahead of where the Xbox 360 was at the same period in it's lifecycle.

Remember, the first game to really start moving the 360 console was Gears of War during the last holiday season (1 year in).  That was about a year after the console launched.  Why are both consoles not being judged equally?  The only real difference has been that the Xbox 360 had NO next-gen competition during the first year.

That shows you like to fight truth.  That is not the WORLDWIDE chart!  I dare you to post that chart.  Sale are not limited to the US.  Hell, you are from the UK.  Why are you posting US only numbers?

How about posting some "from launch" numbers from the UK?   That should be entertaining.

Lair gets a 4.9/10 from IGN citing "A bus-like feel and Sixaxis controls kill this game. In wide-open areas, it's okay, but the moment you need precision, you realize you’re screwed -- you can't corner, target or fight well." Still going to buy it? Of course you will...

Dude, I've had the game for a while now and the controls are spot on.  My cousin's 10 year old flew the dragon in Lair.  Are the reviewers that inept that they can't achieve what a 10 year old can?  Lair is a solid game.  The dragon does NOT handle like a bus, but you would know that if you actually played the game.   Just ask the people who own the game already.  They'll tell you the controls are spot on.  The 7.1 uncompressed sound is great too!

For those that are "challenged" in the motion control department can just use a USB controller to fly the dragon.  It works just fine.  Problem solved.

Stop being a hater.  BTW, Warhawk is a must have game!  I own Halo 1 and 2.  I think Warhawk is much more fun.
