| Posted: | | | | I don't usually post or read any of these discussions as they absorb entirely to much of ones time. But, this one got my attention and I read every post. Skip - I usually agree with you on most points, but this is one time when Ken's response resolved the whole issue. There is no such person as "Himself" or "Herself". It is absolutely rediculous to think any other way. Unless of course some idiot went to the courts and had his name changed. In that case it would be a great topic for a comedian. Let's be realistic...I don't want to look up the name Himself in the CLT and find 5,000 references with the roles being John and/or Mary Doe. Let's look up the name John Doe and find that he played Himself as the role. We're not children, a persons name is a persons name, no matter what column it's in. Remember, we all have a choice how our local database reads. If the CLT becomes corrupt with rediculous names, I will still know the persons name is John Doe and can look it up locally. I will not respond to death threats or taunting. This is the only post I will make. Just in case someone misinterprets what I just said, I agree with Tim. Kermit the frog is a ficticious character also, but if you click on his name you'd expect to see a list of all programs he was in. You wouldn't expect to have to click on his name and then go find this "himself" person to find the rest of the films. How "real" the actor is shouldn't have any bearing on where the name goes. That of course makes the assumption that the credits list kermit the frog that way. If you see something like Frank Oz as Miss Piggy, well we already know how to deal with that. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

Once again, I'm doing EXACTLY as Ken clarified. Here's the screenshot:
Like Ken said: if the only indication of Name/Role is left/right, I would lean towards allowing the credit to be entered as name: "Bob Smith", role: "Himself". As you can see, that's exactly what's happening here. The current profile, indeed submitted by Skip, abuses the "credited as" feature in the manner described in this thread, using "Herself" as the actress' name and "Ida Flammenbaum" as the role name. I am now trying to correct this "Herself" as "Ida Flammenbaum" entry to "Ida Flammenbaum" as "Herself", exactly like Ken told us to do, even supplying a link to Ken's clarification in my notes. If I'm wrong, I'd love to hear it, but I'm 100% convinced that I'm doing EXACTLY what Ken told us to do. Ken, just once would you please step in and tell Skip he's wrong on this It boggles my mind that he can read what you said and interpret it exactly opposite from everyone else! | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | To clarify, in this case the correct entry has Ida Flammenbaum as the actress, "Herself" as the role. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

Now THAT makes things interesting. Heck - I knew that somewhere in the back of my mind, but I'll gladly admit that it slipped my mind when I was re-auditing this profile. Why did I have to go and pick this one to use as an example? In any case I'm glad with Ken's confirmation - it's clear that the principle stands. Now let's see whether Skip succeeds in finding a different interpretation for this as well. Now the question is: do we handle this particular one differently, or don't we? This is more about "how to deal with joke credits" then it is about dealing with reversed himself/herself credits. Thanks to Ken's second (!) clarification, we now all know how to deal with the latter, but I had to pick an example that's a joke credit as well. I'll try to leave this to someone else - I'm just glad that Ken confirmed the basic principle (again). | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I suppose you could put "Sandra Bullock" (credited as "Ida Flammenbaum") playing "herself". That'll get across the gist of what's going on in the credits. |

I was going mental trying to figure out how to enter this Sandra Bullock [Gracie Hart] [Ida Flammenbaum] as Herself Sandra Bullock plays Gracie Hart who plays Ida Flammenbaum who's is credited as Herself |

Sandra Bullock wasn't playing "Sandra Bullock", thus she wasn't playing "herself". | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
