If I could, I would stick my fingers in my ears and shout "La la la la la" in order to not listen to this anymore!

So, I am not going to read any more postings related to this topic. It is much easier to lock my database and not contribute or accept this tiny portion of a profile.

Have fun!

I will repost this from the other thread.

I actually left this argument awhile back

Right now, I am of the mind....

Ken---make a decision.

It is obvious that you are not going to please everybody.

I think the direction that this is going is wrong.  I will not reiterate my reasons why. I think that maybe this is something that should be dealt with in a program update.

There are people here that will lock down the ratings section and do what they want.  It is a shame.  The only things that I have ever locked down on a regular basis, has been images and disc info.  Now for the first time, I may very well lock out almost a complete piece of info from the DB.

But a decision needs to be made, so we know what to do.  All that needs to be said has been said.  The arguments now are not producing anything new.

PLEASE... decide.

I absolutely agree, all arguments are just only going back and forth now, a decision should be made.

Charlie, why do you think it is  shame that people (including myself) will lock down the rating section ?
I findit quite logical to lock down something that I absolutely cannot agree on

Donnie

I can only explain it from my viewpoint, donnie. But given the explanation I have provided to those who refeer to all the old TV Shows. It is simply not logical to make either Unrated or Not Rated the lowest level of rating, it makes no sense. And if the idea is to change Not rated to Unrated, in spiter of the Actual data, that will also get a big NO and ignored and locked. As I repeatedly the data is what it is and if it says Not Rated...so be it. But Not Rated is NOT the lowest rating and to make it so is simply and totally irrational.

Nearly 60 pages to discuss this very  important problem about unrated/non rated/had been rated but is no more/will perhaps be rated..., with a great implication of Ken. Now that things are clear ( ), perhaps it will be time to work on a much less important problem, but with some users waiting for something working better : linking of cast/crew (see Feature request forum...)

Age appropriateness is the whole point of a rating system. Otherwise, it's not any more useful data to track than the color of the text on the cover.

Ladies and gentlemen: we have a winner!

Unless we come up with our own "rating system" the current MPAA system will never fully address this given the proliferation of "Not Rated" and "Unrated" movies.

You guys are trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

Agree completely. Correct linking of names should be the number one priority and I have to admit that I'm confused as to why how much time is being spent on something relatively minor.

Can you imagine setting up a Profiler rating system, the debate and discussion on every single title, OMG, the pain, the pain.

I understand that, even said I understood the issue, but fighting against an 'Unrated' rating, which some people are doing, isn't going to resolve that issue.  If we don't get that additional rating, and stick with what we currently have, NR will still be the lowest rating.

I guess that is the best choice as everybody will be unhappy.

Quoting Ken Cole, from this thread:

"I am not spending my days focused on this issue.  I'm steadily working on the important work items, so no need to worry that this is taking up my time."

I can multitask, so it is not that hard for me to believe Ken can do the same.

I haven't seen anybody really arguing against Unrated, martian. Maybe I missed it. I certainly am not, that is the data after all. The ONLY thing I am saying is that Not Rated is also legitimate data, NR appears to be rare if at all, but If NR is used then it's data too. What I am saying simply is that is WRONG  and completely illogical to make Not rated the lowest rating, that just is so bizarre and until last week nothing had ever been said. Not Rated, just like Unrated, consists of a mix of titles some of which will  for a General Audience and some of which will be for a more restricted audience. To arbitrarily make it the lowest rating when there are factually much higher rated material is just CRAZY, I can't think of another word for it, it's nuts. By the some token trying to create a shoehorn which says higher rated Not Rated should be put into Unrated is also wrong, that's not what the data says, if it says Not Rated then Not Rated it is. If it says Unrated then Unrated it is. It won't happen this way but it is certainly possible so look at through that light, back in the day before MPAA ratings films such as Deep Throat were called XXX, now suppose that in today's world because Deep Throat came out pre-MPAA that it was NOT RATED, right in there with all those other pre-MPAA movies and TV Shows which were far more family friendly, so we are going to call Not Rated the lowest rating. There may be a user, not thinking and think that a lowest rating Deep Throat might be something about Watergate and let his kids start watching it, that's appropriate, now the good news, if this users looks at it at all he won;t get past the first two minutes with the kids watching, but even so, that's just wrong, no way is it right to make it the lowest rating, irrational, illogical and crazy. Sorry, Ken.

I am not sure why you understood it that way but, unless something has changed recently, NR has always been the lowest Profiler rating.

Do we really want to all the direct to video gore films and action films to be the lowest rating ?
Without checking, I think 10 % of my collection would go from highest rating to lowest rating if Ken changes this.
And those will be all gore, action and other direct to video releases.

I am confused as anything with an NR rating already has the lowest rating.  NR is the lowest rating so nothing in your collection will change.

@ Ken, did I miss a change somewhere?  Was NR the highest rating at some point in the past?

I think with all the millions  of postings here I failed to make clear what I want.

So here it is:

I want NR and Unrated to be EXACTLY the same, as they are the same, there is no difference, both means there is no guidance for those titles.

And i want  the NR and Unrated to be the highest rating, below adult of course.

But I do NOT want a distinction between NR and Unrated.

Donnie

Ya you want.... And what do you want to do with the 1000s of films and TV stuff that is NR????????

The oldest unrated release in my collection is Leathal Weapon: Director's Cut, released in 1999.  It did not, however, use the term 'Unrated'.  It just didn't have a rating on the case.

The oldest release, in my collection, that did use the Unrated rating, is Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle: Unrated Special Edition, released in 2003.

No, I have said they are both the highest rating, yes, But I have also discussed methods of how to deal with the problem you raised.
