Ok, just for those that don't know and want to add a manual profile whether it is to catalog dryer lint or whatever (I personally create manual boxsets to group similar movies), this should get you going in the right direction.

DVD -> Add to Collection

Select Add by Title
Input the Title, Region, and Locality

Uncheck Download profile from Invleos

Click Add DVD

It should open the DVD Edit box so fill in the information you want to add
WHen done, click OK

When done adding items, Click Add Now

When you highlight the profile and select DVD -> Change UPC it should have the UPC as something like M then a number

DO NOT CONTRIBUTE ANY PROFILES MADE THIS WAY FOR THIS PURPOSE

It helps if you right click on the icon in the profile window of the hand holding the DVD and select Never Contribute vbecause if you change the proifle's UPC to a valid UPC you can accidnetly contribute it.

I frequently add manual DVDs to my wishlist to keep track of movies that are not yet released on DVD.

The problem is that 3.0.x doesn't display the correct personalization pane, it always displays the one for "Owned". You have to re-personalize *after* the DVD has been added to your wishlist.

Actually the system does not allow you to contribute them even if you tried.

The "Never Contribute" button does not prevent you from contributing.  It only clears the icon that indicates that you have made a change to the profile, and therefore might want to contribute it.

Once you assign it a valid UPC, it is no longer a "manual" profile.

Indeed you don't need to go anywhere near the change UPC dialogue for manual profiles. Once created leave it with the Mxx number and it cannot be contributed.

I struggle to think why you'd want to give it a UPC of any form (valid or not)?

Because the UPC wasn't known at the time of profile creation, but it became available later. Again, happens pretty often with my wishlist entries.

But this isn't the same scenario as creating a manual profile to catalogue something that's not being released, which seemed to be what the original post was about.

Well, not my original post. And the original original post included "or whatever", so I think I'm pretty much covered here. But, you are right for non-DVDs, of course.

I created the post because I have seen a lot of questions being answered as you can add it manually (as in a manual profile) or add it only to your local database.  Questions like can I add home vidoes, video games, etc.  Not everyone knows how to create the manual profiles so I thought this would be helpful.

I also made the statement not to contribute them because I knew you can take a manual profile and give it a UPC.  I understand as long as they stay manual you can't contribute them but I feel stating it, even though it is obvious, is better safe than sorry.

I also added a couple DVDs manually when Invelos was down (because it knew they were in the database, but couldn't download the profiles) and then when is was up again, added the correct UPC and refreshed the profile from the database.
