| Posted: | | | | Hopefully a quick question with a quick answer sorry if this has been asked before could not find anything for it. When using software like DVDInfoPro and PowerDVD when they report the regions as being regions 1,2,3,4,5,6 do you tick all the regions making the disc multi region or do you leave them all unchecked making it region 0. My own reasoning is that you check all box's after all if it said regions 1 to 5 you would check them all so why would one more make a difference but I'm happy to go along with whatever the group feels is best. |

Here's what the rules say;
Regions List the Region(s) shown on the cover, unless you can verify there is a discrepancy between that and the region coding on the disc.
List DVDs encoded for at least Regions 1-6 as "All." Regions 7-8 are ignored for the purposes of DVD Profiler. RCE discs report region information incorrectly when analyzed. If RCE is present, use the box information. When adding regions not listed on the cover, include your verification method (including of RCE presence) in your contribution notes. | | | Berak

This was the confusing bit of the rule for me if the DVD is Regions 1 to 6 then that is "All" regions if you leave them blank then that would be "No" regions what is the difference between multi and region 0 or is there no difference. | | | Last edited: by ninehours |

I would say there is no difference between "All" and Region 0, and again - the rules clearly state to list Regions 1-6 as "All"... I wouldn't pay too much attention to the fact that the Icon shows "0" instead of "All" as DVD's with no region coding use both.... And as for "Multi-region" - this is of course when several regions are available, but not all 6.... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | If a disc is coded (1,2,3,4,5,6) you simply do not check any of the boxes in the program, therefore it's "All Region" or "Region 0" Regions 7 and 8 aren't valid here. Additionally, read here for region explanations. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | I'm finding these past few weeks that Dances With Wolves is being ping ponged back and forth on this. The first week contributions all approve yes to Multi,, the next week it is back again to be marked 1 thru 6... <shakes head> | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | By the same token if 'Fred' submits a profile and leaves the Regions untick to indicate a region free DVD when 'Joe' download's that profile his profile entry will say the the DVD has NO regions assigned to the DVD NOT that it's Region FREE.
Try it yourself and you will see for yourself, at least that's been the case for some profile's I've downloaded, and PM'd the contributor to find out why they had left the regions off.
So Personally I would sooner select/tick boxes 1 thru 6 than hope the next user would recognise the profile as being Region Free, unless this is an opertunity to require an addition to the Regions area of DVDP to include a Regions Free Tick Box.

It may help if the rules were updated to reflect do not tick any regions or list as R0. The removal of the 'all' radio button threw me the first time I did an R0 contribution in 3. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

It says 0 - No region code (hover above the regions icon) when I view the profiles of such discs in the program. It says Not Region Coded when you preview changes of profiles with the database. It shows up as All Regions on the web when viewing collections. They all mean the same thing though. If a disc has "No Regions" (0) it can be played in any DVD player worldwide, thus also being "All Regions" ...excepting PAL/NTSC formatted discs which is another matter entirely. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

Steve If you select more than 2 regions it displays M locally (hovering over shows the actual regions ticked) but this could be any combination, not necessarily all or 0. If you create a new profile without selecting a region it leaves the box empty, no 0, no M and no region code. It's only once you select a region, then remove it that the icon shows the correct 0. So to me the answer is that if no region is selected it defaults to show 0 (including new profiles), otherwise it retains the behavior of displaying the chosen regions if only two are selected or M if 1 through 6. Edit Just for the avoidance of doubt 0 is the logo that is used on DVD covers to indicate a disc is free of region coding or all regions. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Lithurge |

| Posted: | | | | A disc can have regions 1-6 flagged, or it can be flagged as region 0.
If the disc is flagged with each region (1-6) checked individually, then that should be how it is entered into the database. That's what's accurate. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

"Region 0", "R0", "All Regions", "No Regions" are just verbal shortcuts to say that a disc is enabled for all regions. And the rules explicitly state that R1-6 enabled is sufficient to mean "all" for the purpose of DVD Profiler. Quote: If the disc is flagged with each region (1-6) checked individually, then that should be how it is entered into the database. That's what's accurate. See above. With your logic, it would be "accurate" to enter an RCE disc as enabled for all regions, because that's how most of them are flagged. | | | Matthias |

Wrong! If you check DVD with some specialized software like Nero Info Tools or AnyDVD or another software the characteristic of DVD we can have 2 cases : - a DVD with all regions (1 2 3 4 5 6) - or a DVD with region free. The software indicates these with 2 different manners. | | | Regards Cyrille |
