Hello,

I've got a problem when it comes to purchase dvdprofiler.
I had a really bad experience with Paypal that lead to my account being locked, which I'm perfectly fine with. The problem is that when I want to pay for dvdprofiler, it tells me that my credit card number is related to a Paypal account and that I HAVE to use Paypal in order to validate the payment.

What can I do to avoid this ?

We are working on adding additional payment methods. Until then, I am afraid Paypal is the only option right now.

Few things if I may…

First, there is no phone number/e-mail address to contact your company. Every company I deal with has at least local (if not 1-800). I spend an hour trying to find a way to reach you with no success! Not the best business policy…

I would like to purchase the code. I don’t mind paying $30 to use the features I was using for free before I upgraded to the ver. 3. I understand the business and I have no problem with this.

BUT!!!!!! What I don’t like and I reject is paying using the PayPal. So now, you are forcing me to use crippled features because I can’t upgrade (buy a code). I am willing to buy, but I reject using PayPal.

You should have in place more options BEFORE you limited the features. Now I’ll have to uninstall ver. 3 and install ver. 2 (hope this is going to work), until I can purchase the code.

I’ve been using your great software for many years and I was very satisfied with it. I would like to continue using it. I really hope that you’ll have other payment options very soon.

Best regards,
Alex.

GREAT!!!!

I just installed ver. 2 and I can’t add new titles anymore. Perfect!

Thanks a lot!

you haven't been able to download new titles for quite some time now. There is no more 2.x support.

The program still works. You just have to enter the data yourself.

FWIW your last 2.4 backup will get your collection back to where it was. Any new profiles added will have to be done manually.

Well, not really…

Now that I reinstalled 2.4, it is asking me to “refresh online profile list from IVS before proceeding” after I launch the program or try to add new DVD.

When I say YES, it is telling me that the file format is newer and that I need to obtain the new version. I can’t continue.

If I say NO, I can’t add new DVDs, because the initial setup is not done.

And yes, I was able to add new DVDs this morning with ver. 2.4, before “upgrading” to ver. 3.

I’m in the loop now and I don’t see the end…

Thanks,
Alex.

You can't add new DVDs because they aren't getting added to the Intervocative database anymore.
Say "No" to the refresh then untick the "download profile" box and you'll be allowed to add them manually.
Although you'd be much better off using the restricted 3.0 version and waiting until other payment options are made available.
I also think you were a bit hard on Invelos - they're not exactly a mega-corporation, and as far as I'm concerned they're doing a great job. It must be very hard running a small business and I'm sure it doesn't help when people get snotty just because Invelos use a payment service they don't like!

Memo to Alexk:
I take it you don't have a PayPal account,, Did you want to pay using Mastercard or Visa??
Because that is what PayPal loves and will accept and setup for you within hours I believe.,
If you want to only use your checking account through your Bank and have PayPal withdraw those funds,. that procedure will take a little bit longer., as it has to verify that your bank account is legitimate etc.
If you don't have your Paypal account approach a family member or friend and have his Paypal account pay for you and you just reimburse your lender. The email address that you use for download services etc can be different than the email address used for Paypal to reimburse Invelos.

Now with all that said and done, I believe from your post that earlier your 2.version worked fine for adding discs to and now it won't because you have reinstalled 2.4 and now it won't work. this is normal and correct., Before you did this 2. version worked now it doesn't. Backup you your working database .dpb onto your HD in any folder. Go to the website of 3.0 Invelos and download the new data base to your PC., It will be virgin like fresh with no data. Import the .dpb from your PC., You'll be able to add all your titles. Now when the time is right for your Key Purchase, using PayPal to purchase and once your New data base is upgraded again, you'll be able to add as many titles as you like over the current 50 limit.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

I have some DVDs that were released before the ver. 3 came out, so I should be able to add them without contacting the main Dbase to get the new releases. That’s what I did this morning before upgrading. I would be OK even if I have to do this manually. But, I can’t add them either way.

When I say “No” nothing happens. The dialog box disappears without any other option. If I say “Yes”, it just gives me the error and dialog box disappears.

I didn’t like the basic layout offered in ver. 3. I can’t change this to something else, because – no code. Additionally, features that I often use are locked now. So, back to ver. 2.4 for now..

I somewhat agree with you. I don’t dispute that they are small company doing a great job. But not having a contact number or e-mail address has nothing to do with this. I deal with small companies (even one-man shops) and they all provide a way to contact them.

And I still think that they should provide additional ways of purchasing/paying for the code, BEFORE locking features that were free in previous versions. This way all this would be avoided (not to mention all those hours I lost today!!!!)

I don’t think that I’m snotty. I don’t trust PayPal and I’ll never use it! It is my preference and privilege. Credit cards are invented for the reason.

Anyway, let’s just stop here. All this would not be necessary and easily avoidable IF this company provided a way to contact them…

Thanks for your help,
Alex.

Yep, I don’t have PayPal account and as I said before, I’ll never will. I don’t trust them and I don’t want to deal with them. There are other payment methods…

Yes, I understand this perfectly. I know why I can’t add titles anymore, even of older releases. If I knew what I’m up to before upgrading, I wouldn’t do it.

I already upgraded to ver. 3 and discovered that the features I used the most are now locked. So that’s why I went back to ver. 2.4.

I’ll be waiting for other ways of purchasing the code. This program is good and I spent many days entering all my DVD collection. I’m a patient man and for the product I like I’m willing to wait. I just hope not much longer…

Thanks for your help  ,
Alex.

Did you do a clean install of the old version? If so, you won't have the dvds.dod and onlinelist.dod files that contain the UPC lists. I believe someone hosted these files for a while, try searching the forums to see if they're still there. They're about 18MB each. I don't have anywhere to host them, so can't help in that regard.

And I didn't mean to call you snotty, I meant that your initial post came across as snotty, that's all.

Thanks for your replay.

I made a clean install, as suggested somewhere on this site. I realised what happened after going back to ver. 2.4. I just wish I knew what I’m up to before doing all this.

I’ll look for those files, thanks for your suggestion  .

I’m sorry if you see it this way. It was not my intention. I was very frustrated (and I am still), but I didn’t want to sound that way.

But, if you think about this, I’m a client that wants to purchase the product. No ways of contacting the company, no ways of purchasing the code. Hours wasted on searching the site, installing, testing, uninstalling, not being able to work with the software. Should I not be frustrated?

This is a business – I like the product (very much!!!) and I’m willing to buy it. Just allow me to do this. Don’t lock me out before that. Simple as this.

Thanks again,
Alex.

Here's a small hint for you relative to contacting the company. At IVS we had 500,000+ users and there were two active owner partners, if all 500,000 moved with the rest of us, we now have ONE owner and his wife, that's it. They don't have a formal tech support system. WE, the users, are tech support, and we, the users, can probably deal with at least 95% of the problems. If you run into something that someone can't help you with, then some user or other will either put you in contact with Invelos or take action on your behalf. I hope you can see that with ONE owner/programmer and his wife and 500,000 potential users, trying to deal with everything just because a user THINKS he needs to deal with them might get a little impractical and bring Program development to a virtual standstill. The system they use is different but it works.

alex,

in a previous post of this thread, you will see a post by Gerri Cole. Gerri is one of the owners of Invelos. If you will click on her name, you will see a screen with a section where all you have to do to contact her is either click on the sentence that says "Send Gerri a PM" or the sentence that says "Send Gerri an email."

Hi Skip,

I would really like to stop here with all this. I have my opinion about running the business, because I’m for too long involved in that.

My original intention was to obtain information about payment options. I want to buy this product. I gave my opinion regarding this. If I could do that via e-mail it would be obviously better. The owner(s) are the only one who would be able to help. So, I really hope that I will not wait much longer.

Cheers,
Alex.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your tip. I believe that by now, she already knows about my addition to this thread  .
