Edit: Excuse my skippo in the title, obviously that should be Birth not Birty

When updating a profile, sometimes the YoB is incorrectly assigned.

Example

  • I have 2 entries for Harrison Ford in my cast list with birth years 1884 & 1942.

  • My profile for Star Wars has Harrison Ford (1942)

  • If I accept a profile update for Star Wars that doesn't include a birth year for Harrison Ford my  updated local profile now has Harrison Ford (1884).

  • The same happens with others and the earlier YoB always gets chosen.

I really think we need some options when updating involves YoBs.

There are 2 basic scenarios that require some options:

    1. An update has no YoB but the local has.
In this instance we need to have the option of which of the local YoBs to assign to the new profile or retain the existing local YoB.

    2. An update has new YoB data.
In this case we need to have the option of which local profiles we want this new YoB assigned to.

I think this needs to be a priority because the current YoB system isn't working properly, resulting in many incorrect birth years.

    I agree with you.

As an aside the reason that an update to Star Wars resulted in a swap of H. Ford's is proberly down to the submitter either refusing to use BY themselves or having the incorrect one assigned in their own local.

For the time being what I generally do is make a note of which profiles require cast updates, refuse to update those profiles automatically...then check using "Goodguy"'s comparison plugin (which still works in the beta (by the way)). That way I can change only those that require any change.

In addition to the problem with updating profiles, similar problems occur when adding a new profile to your database, so we need similar options for this as well.
