With 3.0.3 I was happily running DP on both a laptop and desktop PC. The database resides on the laptop and is shared onto the desktop PC. Never had a problem.
Now I upgraded both to 3.1 and now I can't access the database anymore. When I start DP on the PC, I get an "Error Loading Database" :

The following error ocurred while attempting to open the database:
DBISAM Engine Error # 11013 Access denied to table '\\Laptop\DVD Profiler\Database\Default\COLLECTION.DAT'

and offers me a selection of options to continue (repair, select other database, create new, close).
When I choose select other database, I can perfectly browse into the shared folder and select the COLLECTION.DAT there, but I still get the same error when opening.

Anyone else has the same issue ?

The database can be run from multiple PCs, but not at the same time.  You must first close DVD Profiler on the other box.  This is unchanged from earlier versions.

I know, but it is not running on the other machine. Maybe I should go check whether there is no dvdp.exe process lingering somewhere...

Nope, doesn't work, even after a reboot of the laptop (i.e. serving the database).
However, I do get some additional popups stating:

The database format is incorrect.
To transfer old databases, run the old program version and select File->Backup Profile Database.

However, the database is not old. It was converted after first run of 3.1 on the laptop and is opening happily ever since.

The issue surely must have something to do with access problems to the COLLECTION.DAT file. Even just in Windows on the desktop I cannot copy the file from the share to a local drive. WIndows popup says that access is denied because I do not have permissions or the file is in use by another user.
I'll check tonight if I can find anything on the laptop (I already unshared the directory and recreated the share but no luck).

Are you sure you have the same version installed on both the master and slave computers?

100% certain .
This is what I did in sequence:
* PC is off, laptop is on: installed 3.1 on laptop, and let it start up (checkbox at end of installation). That went through the upgrade of the database. All is well.
* laptop is off, PC is on: installed 3.1 on PC, and not let it start up (unchecked that checkbox) since it would try to load the database on the laptop which was off.
* did some stuff on laptop (loading updated profiles etc...), didn't do anything on PC.
* then yesterday, wanted to run from the PC: turned on laptop, started DP on the PC and then got the error.

are you still able to surf to the location '\\Laptop\DVD Profiler\Database\Default\COLLECTION.DAT' on your laptop from your PC trough 'mijn netwerklocaties'? If not something is changed in your network.
Wifi connected to your neighbours open Wifi? Windows firewall? ...

verify the path with open database from within dvdprofiler on your laptop where you're database is located and what name it has.

You can also try mapping out a drive and reference it by drive letter instead of by UNC.

Yes, I could perfectly browse to that location. I even tried unsharing and recreating the share, but no change.
However, as I mentioned, this morning I actually tried to just copy (in Windows) that COLLECTION.DAT file to my desktop and there I also got a (Windows) error popup, so it looks like it is Windows related. The file definitely was not in use, or at least not by a DVDP process. I believe there are some tools available that let you see which process is using a certain file. I will give that a go tonight.
Weird thing is that before installing 3.1 it worked perfectly, so somehow it was the installation of 3.1 that did something.

Ok, back home on the laptop. I checked the DVD Profiler directory. I just noticed that all directories (but not the files) have the Read Only flag checked ?! Is this normal ? The weird thing is that if I try to remove the Read Only flag for a folder, the checkbox is still there if I check it afterwards ?!

That's very bizarre - it's almost as if you don't have permission to change those files. Have you checked the permissions on the DVD Profiler to see if maybe it's dropped your login?

Edit: I've just thought - if you're sharing this file between 2 PCs - is it possible that the laptop has read only access to the file?

I think the Read Only flags on directories are normal (although this is the first time I see something like this). I just checked the desktop PC, and also there, all directories have the Read Only flag.
I also modified the entire DVDP database directory on the laptop as being not Read Only, specifying that I want all subdirectories to be writable as well. After that, the directories are still Read Only, and I just checked on the desktop and I still get the errors when starting DVDP.
So, I think the Read Only flag is a false trail.

Next update: looks like COLLECTION.DAT is the only file that I cannot copy on the desktop PC. I just took a few other random files from that same directory (Thumbnails.DAT, Actors.DAT, Collection.DBK) and I could copy them all. But if I try COLLECTION.DAT then I get the access error that I don't have access or that the file is in use.
I suspect the latter, but I have no process that looks like it has anything do with DVDP.

This thing is truly driving me mad!
I now used both Sysinternals Process Explorer and Unlocker to see if there are any processes locking this file. There are none .
