You could download your collection back from the online collection - I don't know how up to date your's is though.

If have mirrored hard drives, can you not restore the database from there?

The problem is my raid drives are fine. there are no issue with the hd.  it just's gone

Alright I downloaded my collection form the web and Everything is there minus 1 dvd!! Here is what i could fine. When I opened DVD profiler on my laptop and It could not find the collection.dat file then the network drive must have then must have been back online and it over righted the collection.dat.

All my Viewing history and Purchase Prices and loan status is back. I will now backup regularly.

Can we backup from the command line? Has anyone written a script that can be scheulded?

Yes, the new version supports a command file.

Glad to hear it's possible but personally I backup every time I do an update (usually daily) and so don't really understand why a scheduled update helps... login, turn on profiler, download new updates, backup... it's just automatic every day!

Computers are pretty ideal when it comes to doing trivial repetitive tasks over and over again. Hence some of us have this crazy idea computers should perform these tasks for us, not simply add more tasks for us to do ourselves.

Anyway, I do not know what exactly it is you do on a daily basis, but I suspect it is something that would not be classified as a backup with my vocabulary.

A backup must obviously be present in several versions (you can do that by changing the name I guess, if you like to do things the hard way).

A backup must obviously be stored off the computer it's a backup of. Personally I swap external backup HDD every week, and store the HDD not connected in another room. Yes, I need to get some proper offline backup, but can't seem to find a decent program to do it (I had to make my own to do the backup on external harddisks as I couold not find any software that was written by someone who understood how to do a backup on an external program).

It must obviuosly include all your data, not just the data from a single program. Just as obviously having 10 programs each with their own manual backup process is just not acceptable.

Basically all my important data is stored on a RAID 5 system with one "hot" backup which will never be more than a few hours outdated. The backup drives keep all old versions until they run full, then start to delete the oldest stuff. If the hot backup fails I still have a backup which can be up to a week old. Yes, I need better protection by storing some data off site, but so far I have recovered from two complete disk system failures without a bit of data lost.
