Hello,

First I would like to aplogize for my poor English (I'm french speaking). So try to understand the meaning and don't stick to the words I'm using... Thanks ;-)

I've been using DVDP for more than 1 year now, and am having a "new" problem. This never happened before and I don't seem to be able to correct it. Here are the symptom, and what I tried :

1. Hardware / Software :
-----------------------------------
- I'm using a lot tags (with 4 levels of childs).

- 2 desktop computers have DVDP last version with unlimited registration key. (I also have DVDPmobile, but this is no concern in this case).

- Both computers have Windows XP SP2, anti virus programs, etc...

2. Synchro used :
-------------------------
- Often (very often since it is almost each day), I upload my collection to the web-collection from my home computer. Than I download from web-collection to my work computer.

3. Problem encountered :
------------------------------------
- Since I have changed versions to last one, the tags are not **always** synchronized!!! To be more precise, I can't say exactly when it happend, but since a particular moment, the tags at home and the tags at work live sepratly though the new DVDs are synchronized.

- When a new DVD is entered and synchronized, than the tags come correctly through the first time.

4. What I tested :
--------------------------
- First as mentionned I tried to simply synchronize several times making print screens to be sure about the tags that were concerned. So I'm sure the problem exists.

- Than I re-installed both DVDP programs (after having uninstalled all but the DBs)

- Than I tried to repair the DBs

- Than I tried to make a new DB (at Work) and re-download the complete collection.

5. Conclusions I came to :
------------------------------------
- My Home collection does note upload the tags to the online collection. Since when I re-install compeltly from scratch the DVDP software with no DB, the tags are as they were before re-install (ignoring the home changes).

6. Questions :
--------------------
- Does this happened to anyone else? If so is there a known solution?
- Is this a "feature" that tags will no more be synchronized?
- Is my home computer coming from another Galaxy?

Thanks for any answer which could help... best regards,

Darlidada

I am not aware of this particular problem, but please read my answer here regarding the use of the online collection as backup solution.

It is quite possible that Ken made it intentionally that local tags won't be overwritten when downloading from the online collection (as I said, it's not meant to be as a backup feature).

I've found the same with tags in that when I edit them (change their position) then sometimes the changes don't get passed over.

With v3, Ken added the personal information so that was all passed to the online (and retrieved), and this did seem to always work, so I'm not sure if something with the latest version has made this flaky.

I'm still hunting but there is something shaky going on.
The initial upload/download transports all used flags. After that, simple additions doesn't seem to work.

cya, Mithi

PS If you want to join the hunt: You have to close DVD Profiler, or switch to another Database and back to see the tags after download. Most likely the database_table for tags isn't built/updated after the download but only on opening the database.

so ... I played around with this problem, but I'm not all that wiser.
Two systems (courtesy of Virtual PC 2004): SOURCE (a Windows 2000, but that shouldn't matter) and DEST (Win XP), the DVD Profiler on the latter was a clean start.

The initial upload/download transported all used flags.
Changes in set flags on SOURCE after that weren't transmitted, I'm not sure if this is a problem in Upload or Download of the collection.
A new title on SOURCE with prevously empty tags ticked did tranport them over to DEST for that title, but the ticks for other titles are not.
So, part of the problem seem to be that Profiler simply doesn't "look" at titles that are not new to the onlinelist. Again, I don't know if this is a problem on up- or download.
Another idea of mine: I upload a different collection (with one title) to 'wipe' the onlinelist, then upload the test-database and download it from DEST. Well, this works, but not on all flags and I don't see a system.

Not to mention the already stated problem that the tags, even if they are downoaded correct are only shown after switching the database or closing and opening the program itself.

Ken, fix it please!

It seems that profiles are only uploaded if there is a change to the profile and that tags are not looked at for changes. So maybe if there was different change to the profile then the tag changes would be uploaded.
