Can't Lock Features

I use the "Other" field under features to enter a code for the physical location of the DVD (ie shelf, binder number, etc) .  Actually, having a default field for location was be a real enhancement for me.  My problem is that I want to lock the features tab against updating so my location codes don't get overwritten.  I can do this individually for each DVD, but I would like to set it once for the entire database.  I know that I should be able to flag all, then use Collection> Flagged> Edit Locks, but that seems not to work with features (I can lock other fields).

Any Ideas?

I just tested it by flagging a few DVDs and went under the Collection -> Flagged -> Edit Locks and "Features" was a checkbox in there and it worked for me, so not sure why it wouldn't for you.

I think the real solution to your problem though is to actually use the "Location" field available to you in DVDP.  When you're editing a movie, select the last screen available to you called "Personal Information" and at the bottom under the "Discs" section a field called "Location" you can use.  You can also get to the screen by selecting a movie in your Collection List and pressing Ctrl-P.

The only trick with this Location field is that it is only available if a Disc has been added to the profile.  So if the Location field is disabled for you, all you need to do is edit the profile and go under the "Discs" section and click on "Add Disc".  You don't have to actually set the DiscID or anything, you just need to add the disc.  Most of your movies should all ready have this so I don't imagine you running into it often, but figured I'd mention it just in case.

I've just tried it as well with no problems.
What exactly happens when you try it? Do you get an error messages? Does the edit locks window not open or will it not let you tick the Features box?

Hmmm.  I just upgraded from DVDP 2.4.  I don't think that location field was available.  Can this location field be reported?  I periodically generate a compendium.

Also, when you tested it, did you check the locks on any of the DVDs?  No error is generated.  It just doesn't do it.  An if I try to lock another field, say SRP and Features of a flagged set, the other field will be locked, but not Features.

Yes, the location field is reportable, although it took me a while to find it - it wasn't exactly obvious if I remember rightly.
Just looked: if you add "Disc Information" (the last icon) to a report, and look at the options to the left, you should see "Show Location" and "Show Slots" - make sure both (if you use both) say True.

As for the locks, yes I checked and the lock was set. Have you tried doing chunks at a time rather than the whole database? I looked at the list of restrictions and locks aren't mentioned so I don't think that's the problem.
Are you definitely getting a solid black tick rather than a grey tick? As far as I can tell the grey tick means no changes, you need to make sure it's a black one for them all to be switched on. Apologies if that's obvious to you, I'm just trying to cover all bases.

-edit-
North's post above made mine obsolete.

I've also just realised. Locks aren't restricted by registration, but reports are! If you do use them a lot and you own more than 50 DVDs, you may need to think about buying a licence. Obviously if you bought one for 2.x, you can exchange it for a 3.x licence for free.
