Hi guys. For years, I used to be a very active DVDProfiler user (both forum posts and profile contributions) as some of you might remember. I gave up on the program a year ago largely because I found the way that Profiler handled box sets (multiple movies in one set such as the Rocky Collection) and individual discs in a set (ie: the separate discs in TV season sets or even the separate discs of an individual 2-disc release like Spiderman 2) to be cumbersome and confusing to me. Worst was all the updates of nothing but disc ID changes which were continuously the majority of profile changes and very time-consuming when you have almost 4000 collection titles like me. I have finally given in and downloaded the new Profiler version as I really miss all the other great features of the program. I tried doing a search of the forums as well as using the program's help function and can't seem to find an easy answer to what the current method is for Profiler to handle the above 2 types of multi-disc sets. Would someone be so kind as to give me an overview of my options for handling this? Ideally, what I would like is that when I download a main profile (ie: Rocky Collection), the separate movies are downloaded and assigned to it, or if I download a TV season profile, the separate discs are downloaded with it. Also, ideally, only the main set's profile would have a collection number and the rest are not counted. Is all that doable? Thanks in advance for the help and I look forward to once again actively contributing here.

I am not a hundred percent sure, but I believe that Box Set contents is a local thing, once you added a profile that contains children you won't get updates for profile changes because of box set

Someone please correct me, if I am wrong in this.

With the new version you are able to create box sets with more than one level. That is helpful for e.g. full series box sets.

You can do this.

Angel: The Complete Series
+ Season 1
++ Disc 1
++ Disc 2
++ ...
+ Season 2
++ Disc 1
++ ...
+ ...

But in general it's the same thing as always. You add the box set parent to your collection (by UPC, DiscId or by Title), then you add the child profiles and afterwards you assign the child profiles to the box set parent in the box set parent profile.

What you do locally, it's all your business. When it comes to contribution you have to abide to the following (abridged) rules:

- box set parents must not contain info about an individual movie (actors and stuff).
- each disc of a box set can be contributed as long as it contains a "main feature"
- TV series seaon profiles contain all the information of the season
- TV series disc profiles may be contributed but it is not necessary, if such profiles exist, it is not allowed to remove information from the season profile
- if a TV series season box has no own UPC the DiscId of the first disc is to be used.

Full rules text is to be found here:

This is a feature request and has been asked before. No idea, if this will be implemented some day.

That on the other hand is personal preference, I do it the other way around.

@ raytrade:

Since you gave up on the program, two major changes (as far as I know) have been implemented:
1) multi-level box sets, so now you can have box sets within box sets;
2) a difference in rules between movie box sets and TV box sets: whereas movie box sets do not contain data on individual movies, in the case of TV sets the parent profiles (season profiles) should contain all information. For TV child profiles at disc level may be contributed, but this is not compulsory.

As DJ Doena said: downloading child profiles along with the parent profile has been requested as a feature.
Numbering of parents and/or children can be handled locally, so you can do what you want.

I've tried the search forum for "copy" or "child Profile" without much luck.  I was looking for a tutorial or something on how to do the child profiles so I could see if that would allow me to do what I am trying to do.

I will explain it here in case you might have some ideas on how I can achieve this.

I currently store all of my dvd's in numbered sleeves in 1000 disc storage cases.  Each numbered sleeve corresponds with the number in my collection in DVD Profiler.  The system works perfect for me until I get to TV shows or Box sets.  In many cases now there are individual profiles for each disc in the set so I add those, giving each one a collection number which is where the disc is located in my numbered storage.  For those that do not have multiple discs I have been manually adding the discs.

Is there a way to copy all of the information from the box set profile to the user created individual disc profiles?

Like say there is "TV Show: Complete Season One" and that is it, just 1 profile for the whole set.  So I add that and change the Title to TV Show Complete Season One Disc 1 and it has all of the information, but all of the ones added manually like Disc 2, 3, etc are blank.  Can I copy everything from the Complete Season One profile to each of the manually created Disc profiles?

Thanks so much for your help, I have tried searching without any luck, either the search is too narrow and doesn't provide the answers I seek, or too broad and returns nothing at all.

It's possible to copy cast and crew, but nothing else.
However, you might be better off searching for the discs in another locality/region as it's possible that someone somewhere has already created profiles for a different boxset of the same series.
Then all you need to do is download that profile instead and change the region, locality etc. to match your own. Obviously if you wanted to contribute it, you'd have to check all the data against the DVD to make sure it matches before submitting, or you could keep it local like your manual profiles.

Thanks for the idea, this might help with some of them.  The first one I attempted this on was Numb3rs Season 3, and even changing the region and locality to All/Any, still didn't yield any individual disc profiles    But this might work for some others at least.
