I just started using Profiler again after a year, and now remember one of the main reasons I abandoned the Profiler previously, and I am wondering if there is a solution or workaround in the current Profiler version. Basically, I don't give a hoot about some Profile data fields like cast, crew, and disc ID. These comprise the vast majority of contributed profile changes, it seems. Many changes are also what IMHO are extremely minor. In the current unvoted contributions that I just checked, there are changes of Robert Downey, Jr to remove the comma, or Cedric the Entertainer to capitalize the "The". I realize these are within contribution rules and many others appreciate the corrections, but in my case, it creates tons of profile changes that really I don't personally care about. My problem is when I download updated profiles, I always preview the changes for accuracy. Since I own many obscure titles, the changes often go through with no or few votes and sometimes are plainly inaccurate in major ways such as title or MSRP. I don't want to corrupt my database with those changes so I am forced to preview all changed profiles before accepting updates. Because I own 3500ish titles, this process takes up lots of time continuously and became totally unmanageable, which is one of the big reasons I stopped using the program a year ago. I am sure some of you will point out I could avoid these "bad" changes going through by voting regularly, but since almost all contributions to profiles are in the crew/cast or disc ID areas, I found it impossible to devote the time every day to looking at all unvoted profile changes and voting since there are often a huge number of changes I have to look through because of the number of titles I own. So, what I want to know is if there is a way to either:
a) delete the crew/cast, and disc ID fields from my profiler database so that when I check for changes, it won't show changed profiles that just have such changes
OR b) somehow tell the program to automatically accept changes to cast/crew or disc ID when downloading profile updates and only show me changes to other fields for me to preview and accept.

I know I could just lock those fields but my understanding of how the program works is that the more local database profile differences I have from the online database, the longer it would take to upload my collection online as Profiler has to load the differences in the profiles. Is that incorrect?

I was essentially hoping for a DVDProfiler Lite for those of us who don't care for all the detailed fields about the movie which are part of the full profile. I just want to know what titles I own, how much I paid, where I bought it, have the back cover overview, and images, and that would do it for me.

alright thats a lot to take in... let me try to take it part by part.... i can't understand the lack of need for cast and crew, but whatever... to each his own...

there is no "lite" version of the program, and even if there was, i would assume that that would have the cast... so that is not really an option

by modifying and basically creating your own layout, you could have the program you see show nothing but the information you want... essentially the "lite" version you desire, in appearance only though... you would still get profile updates for changes to undesired fields, however, if you blindly accepted them, you would never see them... (i understand this defeats the purpose, since you want to not deal with them at all) - but it may make the program more user friendly for you.

as far as manipulating locks, you could use that to keep the fields empty, however you are correct, it will take longer to upload the collection, though at a year ago you would have been using the 2.x version, this newer version is much more efficient. in addition it will still show you the updates, so if you plan on checking each update for correctness, you will find many that are "undesired data" only... and therefore still be bothered by it...

as to your direct questions... there is no way to remove the fields from your database all together so you do not see the updates and there is no way to automatically accept certain updates, and not others. you can accept all, or none... but there is no way, even by a two step process to pass through some but not all the profile...

sorry.

1) ignoring changes to fields like cast etc

- You can globally lock these fields and then there is an option to ignore changes for locked fields within DVD profiler (I belive).

I can't describe how you get there since I don't have the program at work but if you look under options then that should be there.

2) loading data up to online database.

- since version 3, all data which is held locally has been loaded up to the online database (locked or unlocked) so it makes no difference what you lock. Additionally a change has been done so that only the changes since the last time data is uploaded are uploaded so after the 1st load then this shouldn't be a problem for you.

wow... pauls just enlightened me to a feature that i never knew existed, which wow...

tools > options > defaults --- in the lower right hand corner there is an option to hide updates for locked profiles or images...

i do not know if this will hold true only for full profile locks or will work on partials, you would probably have to play around with it... and as pauls also stated, in 3.0 it is much more efficient

OK, thanks for all the suggestions. I will try locking those fields and hide the updates. I wonder if this will work:
1) Lock the cast/crew and disc ID fields and hide those updates
2) preview updated profiles which should now not show me profiles that have only updates to those fields
3) accept or ignore the other updates
4) unlock the cast/crew and disc ID fields then again check for updated profiles. This should now ONLY consist of profile updates to those fields as I have just accepted or rejected the other updates.
5) automatically accept all updates which should now change only the crew/cast and disc ID fields for all changed profiles.
6) relock those fields until the next time I check for updated profiles.

Now my profiler should be up to date with those fields matching the online database, right? If I remember correctly, once I reject an update change to a profile, it won't try to make that change when I rerun the profile updates per the procedure above until the next time there is a change to that profile, right? Otherwise my process above won't work as my second runthrough of the update processw (#5 above) would now change those profiles that I had rejected the change for in step#3. Does that make sense?

makes perfect sense to me, give it a try and tell us if it works, if not we'll try to figure something else out
