Step by Step Entering of Child Profiles |

| | Posted: | | | | I am new to DVD Profiler and like most of it so far. I have noticed several discussions about Child Profiles for Box Sets and TV Series but I am having some trouble figuring this out. Can some one give me a step by step instruction on how to enter even one Child. I go to the "Edit Profile" window and click on the "Box Set Contents" tab and all I see are the titles for the other movies in my collection. There doesn't seem to be a way to manually or automatically enter anything here for the set I am trying to update. I'm probably missing it but any help here would be appreciated.

To use child profiles is actually pretty simple once you find the trick to it. You first enter the box set upc code and download that profile (ex: Adventures of Indiana Jones UPC 097360-612547). Once you have that profile, you can either use disc ID (put the dvd into the dvd-rom of the computer and the program will identify most discs and ask if you want to download the profile) or manually add by title. If you want to add by title (sometimes the disc ids are not entered yet), you'd use one of the movies in the box set, like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Disc Id is more reliable, but both ways work. Download the profile that comes up (you can usually tell the box set profiles easily b/c they don't have UPC numbers, just the disc id). You can either download the rest of the profiles of the movies in the box set or go to the next step.
Once all profiles are downloaded, go to the box set profile, i.e. Adventures of Indiana Jones. Under Edit, Box Set Contents, choose the box set content profiles (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) By using the "Assign" button, you assign the profile, the child profile, to the parent (box set) one. Now, the box set should should a plus/negative in the little box next to its name. By clicking on the plus, the profiles will expand so you can see all attached.
The program was fairly recently updated so that you can do parent profiles, children, grandchildren and so on and so on profiles. Some people use this to keep their TV box sets more organized along with movie box sets.

| | Posted: | | | | Thankyou Lori for your reply. That is the simplest explanation I've seen so far. So, if I understood you correctly, basically what I'm doing is entering the box set contents as individual movies and then assigning them to the main box set profile. Sounds easy enough.
Since you were so helpful with that.....What about episodes for TV series. Is there any way to assign certain actors to specific episodes only and maybe have the plot for each specific episode or would that be the same as entering each episode as an individual movie and then assigning it to the series?

| | Posted: | | | | Currently there are only profiles on disc level, not on episode level. See here, too. If you want to have it on episode level, you have to do it on your own. What to do: - go to the "Add DVD" dialog - switch to "Add by Title" (3rd tab) - disable "Download from Invelos" (lower left corner) - Enter the episode title and add it. What you have now is called a "manual profile". You can do whatever you want with it and you can go tot the parent profile and add this manual profile as a child. | | | Karsten

Knowing that I have to enter them as individual movies and then assign them was the key. This way I can have actors, plots, cover images etc. specific to each episode which is exactly what I was looking for. A little time consuming, but cool.

| | Posted: | | | | Though, the majority of the time, there should be very, very little information in the box set parent file. Most info should already be in the child (though my least favorite part is trying to figure out the personalized info-date of purchase and where I got it and how much I spent and getting it into the file correctly). The exception to this rule is box sets where two movies are on one single sided disc...there isn't a way of creating an official child profile as the disc id is the same for both movies. | | | | Lori |
