Based on recent media coverage we guess likely you would go with Blu-ray. But has the market already made its decision? Which companies support which format? We spent some time examining the current market and compiled a list of hardware vendors, retail stores and publishers and their support for the HD age. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | Interesting article, but it's not entirely accurate. Some of the those HD DVD retailers are online-only. Secondly, it discounts the importance of multiple hardware vendors completely. This article fails to realize that perception is everything. When both hardware and software shelf space are analyzed, that's how you find the winner. Why? because retailers will give the shelf space to the products making them the most money. EDIT: I found somewhere else a list of errors that the article made...I didn't write this: Quote:
* Fails to list Pioneer and Hitachi, two of the founders of the BDA, under Blu-ray. Yet for some reason it still lists RCA, who publicly announced several months back that they weren't just quitting HD DVD, but the entire consumer electronics business. * It lists Weinstein, who isn't making any HD DVDs anymore, yet fails to list Lionsgate as a studio despite the fact it's larger than Weinstein, has a bigger catalog, has released several times more Blu-rays than Weinstein has HD DVDs, and has released almost as many Blu-rays as Paramount has HD DVDs. Oh, and not to mention the fact that it's not only still releasing Blu-rays, but that they've been top of all hi-def media sales for several weeks. * It lists Focus, a subsidiary of Universal, as an entire studio. If that's the case, you might as well list all 20+ subsidiaries of Fox, Disney, Sony, and Lionsgate. * It fails to list LG as a PC drive manufacturer for Blu-ray. * It fails to mention that the 360 add-on is made by Toshiba, as are all HD DVD players no matter the name. * It claims you can only get Blu-ray at K-mart online, but fails to mention that Target only sells HD DVD players online. * It mentions Blockbuster without mentioning that there's something like a 10:1 ratio of stores that carry Blu-ray to stores that carry both.
