- Rumours were circulating today that Microsoft is set to dump HD DVD and bring out a Blu ray Xbox 360 by as early as May
- MicroSoft are quoted as saying, there will be no BluRay drive add-on | | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions. |

Unless I am missing something, Sony is one of the companies that holds the rights to the technology. Microsoft would have to buy a license to produce the drives. I don't see Sony allowing them to buy one. I understand that they are one of the companies. I don't think that will allow them to prevent Microsoft from obtaining a License if they desired. I'd love to see the court battle that would ensue if Sony tried to deny them a license if they applied. I'm no legal expert and don't know all the wording on obtaining a license, but I somehow doubt they can deny a license because it would cause competition with their product. Besides, Microsoft doesn't seem to think it will be a problem, because I've read statements from them about a Blu-ray add-on being a possibility if they felt there was consumer desire for it (or something along those lines) |

While it is possible, I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would win an unfair competition law suit...seeing as how they have been sued for the exact same thing.  Quote:
