| | Posted: | | | | I just bought my HD-DVD Player 2 Months ago. Now I got all the titles I want. So it's time for Blu Ray. I live in Austria/Europe but I like to buy my Movies in the US. So I need to know what Players, or Brands are Code Free. My Boss told me that all Sony Blu Ray Players are Code Free. I haven't verified that up till now. Does anyone know if that's true? Further more, I am interested in the Samsung BD 1400. Does anyone have an Idea if that one (the european Version) is code free?

My Boss told me that all Sony Blu Ray Players are Code Free. He is wrong. None of them are. Some blu ray discs are Region free, here is a list: http://bluray.liesinc.net/. But remember an Austrian blu ray player will only play region 2 or Region 0 DVDs. |

I don't know how reliable the mod is, though.

None of them stock though  The swedish site mentioned in the thread already offers some hacked ones, however the price tag of almost $1000 is too much. Just give it some time, or buy a US PS3? You can get the 40GB for $499 which at the current exchange rate is about 325 Euros. I already checked the list of codefree blu rays. It seems that all Warner and some Sony are Code A,B,C while Fox, Buena Vista and some Sony Titles are coded.
I wonder what Universal and Paramount are gonna do when they finally are releasing HD-DVD's.

Since you appear to be at the source of information, can you find out when the profile 1.1 players hit Europe? I am looking into the Philips BDP7200, the Samsung BD-P1500 and the Panasonic BMP-BD50. But so far I haven't been able to find any release plans. Though I've not tried to play a region B or C blu-ray on my PS3, I'm fairly certain it would fail. Perhaps they were confusing DVD region coding with Blu-ray region coding. I guess it's conceivable that Sony is making code free players for some markets, but I highly doubt it. If they did, there would have been a lot of talk about it on various forums, and this is the first I have heard of anything like that. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

Thanks upfront for any input! Stephan I bought a SONY S300 and had it modified by Stegen Electronics. I can play all my region 1 and 2 DVD's and I Region B Blu's. I haven't have any Region A discs, but I have had one from a friend which does play. My friend has a S500 modified by Stegen Electronics. I don't think that someone from the industry would lie to us, as we are the second biggest electronics chain worldwide (second only to the american best buy). We recently kicked out a big company (called PIOXXXX) for messing up, so I don't think that they actually did lie to us. Only thing I can imagine is that my boss misunderstood. He was very clear though. Sony players are codefree in blu ray mode. I will be clear on the issue on monday, because then I will certainly have spoken to sony myself. I will also try all the other companies. Since I wanna play Fox titles a code free player is essential.
May I ask where this Stegen Electronics is located? If I had to buy a player right now, I would get the Samsung BD 1400 as it is the only one currently able to play DTS HD Master. Which my already ordered Amplifier (Onkyo 605) is able to play.
I find it interesting that Sony Players can't do that since sony invented that format. I heard that only the coming models are capable of DTS HD Master.
It would be nice if you could provide some info on that Stegen electronics company.

They will either ship the mod-set so you can modify the player yourself, or you can ship the player to them, or order a player from their website. I drove to them. I know they have a partner in Stockholm, Sweden with whom they also do business. Unfortunatly he hasn't got the Samsung I think? Does do the Pioneers and SONY's You might want to visit Stegen Electronics website for more information. Hope you'll find something you'd like. I don't know where you are situated in Austria.
