the comments on the article do make a good point.  if you can grab a Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive for cheap, it makes a cheap DVD upconverter for your Xbox.

You don't need the HD DVD drive (it's just a USB drive), the built in DVD drive will already upconvert if you have the right cable. You do get a remote with the HD DVD drive though.

As long as it's as cheap as the HD DVD drive was, I think it's a great idea

A follow up, to the follow up

Microsoft says no Blu-ray for Xbox 360

Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, poured cold water on recent speculation that Microsoft could support Blu-ray, "Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience," Greenberg told Reuters in an interview.

Another rumour

The Chinese language Economic Daily News is reporting that Pegatron, an OEM subsidiary of ASUS, has won the order from Microsoft to assemble the Xbox 360 with Blu-ray Disc ROM drive -- shipments are expected to being in Q3 of this year

The thing is, they gotta come up with a Blu Ray add-on sooner or later. People are demanding HD Content. Making Downloads available isn't gonna cut it. People like us here will always want to have the Movie in our Shelves. Not just on a drive. Even though it will lose them even more money, they gotta do it. There is no two ways about that.

I agree, it would be stupid of Microsoft not to support blu-ray on their gaming platform.  since it is now the standard, the format should open up to all manufacturers, heck I even heard that Best Buy is making their own blu-ray player now..soon to be on the shelves at a lower price point than $300.

One day they go Blu but Microsoft seems more focused on things like games.  I am still waiting for a PS3 game that captures my interest that I can't get on the Xbox.  So far the only use I have had for my PS3 is as a blu-ray player.
