Hi, I am new to this site and have only been trialling DVD Profiler since Friday night. In the past I have been using a programme called DVD Collector (Australia - region 4) which is now sadly defunct. It was a nice simple database catalogue, however prone to crashing due to some unexplained bugs. As my collection grew, it became more unreliable.. thank heaven for backups.
Anyway, my question is that I don't appear to be able to change EAN/UPC numbers once I have d/loaded either a R1 or R2 dvd into the programme. Many Region 4 DVDs don't appear in the main database and I thought if I d/loaded the R2 PAL formats, with some editing I would then have the R4 equivalent without the need to enter all details from scratch.
Secondly, early days as it is, I am using the English (UK) translation. Is there an English (Australian) translation available that would cater for the Australian film classifications and 13 character EAN barcode references. If there isn't I guess in time I would need to go through it entirely and edit accordingly.
Finally, I am also trialling Colllectorz "Movie Collector". Anybody here from Australia that has used both and can give an objective opinion of both programmes. With Movie Collector I have discovered that I can use my data in Windows Vista Media Center to access film info when I slip a DVD into my PC. Any chance of that with DVD Profiler or is that something for the wish list?

You can change the UPC/EAN to match your DVD using the menu DVD/Change UPC after you have downloaded a different profile. After you change the EAN, you will need to change the locality using the menu DVD/Change Locality. Once you have the correct EAN and Locality you can verify the details of the profile against the actual credits and content of the DVD. You may have to change the currency to the correct local currency also. If you have a scanner, you might also want to scan the proper cover images. If some of these options are not available (not sure which features are disabled with the free version) they will work if you have less than 50 profiles in your database I think.

If you decide to buy this program (and most everyone here would recommend that you do) you could then contribute your updated profiles to the online database so they would be available to other users. Before contributing, you should familiarize yourself with the Contribution Rules.

Just after I sent my post off, I discovered the EAN/UPC and locality change options so all is good now.
Looking locally in Australia for a good barcode scanner that is not going to break the bank. Not much so far, although the Microvision Flic/ROV units from the USA appear to be close to what I am looking for.
Any other Aussies had success in this regard?
