Panasonic today announced that it will soon launch a new Blu-ray player that will cost $699 but will be compatible with new 'BD-Live' interactive features.

Dude, that's more expensive than the PS-3 which can do all that and more as the Blu-Ray format is expanded.

For that price, I'd expect multi-disc support.

Way too high. Unusual for Panasonic to come in at too high a price. $700 would be about right if it were also multi-format, like the Gen 4 Samsung that is coming.

Bummer.  I really wanted this player but not at $700.  I guess I'll be looking at one of the new Sony players when they come out.

Who cares what it's compatible with when they charge that much for it. 
$700 players are not going to help Blu-ray gain converts.

I would be careful with the Sony. With the current models there is no support for the HD Soundformats. Well the BD S 500 can at least play True HD.
I hope that's different with the new models.
I myself got the Samsung BD-P 1400 and I am more than happy with it.
