Can you import an existing collection? |

| | Posted: | | | | I love the way this software looks, i have a database already set up using other programs with a ton of movies already in them, the movies are also numbered because they are catalogued by number, i can export this list to a .txt file as well as other formats, im wonder if there is any way to import this into this program, i have yet to find a way. Thanks for anyones help in advance |

Importing by title would be too difficult as the program wouldn't be able to know which DVD of any particular film you owned.
Try the program with just a few titles for now, and if you like it, it may be worth getting yourself a cheap barcode scanner - that would certainly speed up adding your DVDs. |

| | Posted: | | | | There's a plug-in in the downloads area called "UPC Import" which lets you import a list of UPCs from a text file. Goodguy wrote it and it works quite well. I don't have Profiler here at work to test, but if I recall the format of the text file is something like:
owned
UPC_1 // title
wishlist
UPC_2 // title
ordered
UPC_3 // title
The above would add UPC_1 to the owned tab, UPC_2 to the wishlist tab, and UPC_3 to the ordered tab. The "// title" is a comment which is ignored by the plugin but it's helpful if you have a lot of DVDs to enter to have them in the text file so you know what the newly created profile represents.
I don't remember what the title the plugin gives to the imported profile, but it starts with *** and includes the UPC/EAN in both the title and sorttitle fields. That way if you do an alpha sort by title the new profiles all sit at the top of the list.
If you can export a text file from your other programs with the UPC/EAN of the DVDs, you can at least load all them into Profiler -- and then download the online profiles for these titles (if available) and then edit the individual profiles as you wish.
You'd still have a lot of work to do to clean up the profiles once you get the titles into Profiler, but it would be quicker to import them this way than to scan the bar code of every DVD you own. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole)
