Firmware (v2.42) Now Available
+ Posted by Eric Lempel // Director, PlayStation Network Operations

Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.42) is now available for download. This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software.

I downloaded and installed it last night without any issues.  Or benefits (so far).  But i did hear that it makes trophies load faster.

You must be seeing my son playing.  I've installed the full version, but it's only active on my account.  His account still has the demo version.  There's something screwy about that game.  And his account can't use my login to download the full version.  It really sucks.  Everything else works great across multiple accounts.

This a security measure to prevent other accounts from making unauthorized purchases on your credit card.  It's based on how you set your secondary account up.  You might want to tweak your account management settings.

And do you have any specific instructions?  It's just this one stupid game.  I'd love it if he could play it from his own account and leave my game alone.

I'll go through the process and re-purchase SSHD.  I'll make notes so I can give you a step by step walkthrough.  It won't be right away, though (not today).

Another option would be to call Sony and have them walk you through it.

A_S.... Don't!

I created a test account. Did not change any default settings and was able to play Super Stardust HD on that account. I'd check the parental control settings if you've played around in there.

Thanks for the advice.  I did recently create a new account for him and it might work there.  His old account had him signed up as an 11 year old and he can't play Burnout online since he's under 18.  So I recently created a new account for him and made him an adult so he can play online.  It might be that it works fine with that account.

Or maybe things have changed in the past few months since we've tried it.  I know I'm not the only one because a few months back others were complaining on the Playstation forums about the same issue.

Do we really need trophies?  Just a question, no offense meant.

I would say we don't NEED many things.  It really there to improve some people's gaming experience...to give them an extra reason to continue to play (the same goal as achievements on the Xbox 360).  IMO, trophies (and the ability to have them displayed in a trophy room with Home) just builds upon that principle.
