Like many I am already on 3.5 beta thus cannot contribute a profile. For Casino Royale ['06], which was published last week as the Deluxe Edition in Germany, I downloaded the British R2 and changed the specifics for the German release. So far so good.

I stumbled upon something of which I am not quite sure what to make of; let's say this is purely whimsical interest.

The CR profile shows MGM, Columbia and EON under studios in that order. In the end credits the production companies listed are Stillking [Czech], Casino Royale Production Ltd [UK], Babelsberg Film [German] and Casino Royale US LLC [US]; the production countries are accordingly shown, EON has the copyright.

Apart from the fact that we do not have enough fields to accommodate all of the studios and distributors, which are we to fill in? And how do we determine the main production country as we can only put in one?

PS: For completeness, the DVD distributor is Sony Home Entertainment.

Simple, as with all the other Bond films the main production country is UK.

With Casino Royale EON is the main Production Company.

The general rule, as I'm sure you already know, is:

Quote:
List the Studios in the following priority.

    * Theatrical Release Studio(s)
    * Production Company(s)
    * DVD Distribution studio(s) if there is room available.

I would use the first three studios from the opening credits.

With the Beta, there is a room for separate DVD Distribution Studio, so the order will be

MGM (Theatrical releasing)
Columbia (Theatrical releasing)
EON (Production)

with Distribution being

Sony Home Entertainment for US and who ever is distributing your DVD for Germany.

On another note, I am noticing that recent Bond submissions (for Best Buy Steelbooks Blu-ray) have US as the COA, which is wrong.

Theatrical Release would then be MGM/UA or Columbia or Sony?*
Production would be EON or Casino Royale Ltd [since there is no more room for prodcution companies I take the UK firm as precedent]?
DVD Distribution clearly is Sony Home Entertainment, no question in that area?

The precedent I assume for the main production company clearly carries over to the CoO though at least one James Bond movie has always been credited to the UK and France [outside DVDProfiler].

With almost every major studio movie being produced by at least two, often more, companies, wouldn't a free-form entry field be a good idea?

If you want to be able to search the studio field then you can't have free form entry - else you could end up with thousands of variations for studios. That way leads to chaos.

And the COO should be UK for all of them (as far as I know).

They may have an American singing the theme for the latest 007 - but that should be as far as it goes.

Agreed; that's the reason why at least we've (generally) agreed to leave off Ltd, Ltd., Limited etc. as they are all the same thing but lead to separate studios.

FWIW I'd also like to see the (UK) etc left off the end as well, as this just means it's the wholly owned 'local' company, not that it's a different company doing the distribution, but since this has not been agreed/accepted as sensible I presently can't do this.
