I have approx 975 movies in my collection and DVDP is taking 4 minutes to become usable from startup.

Cannot say I have noticed this before and until you can use the program you get the Not Responding Message in the top window pane.

I am using Vista x64 edition, any suggestions or is this normal?

Do you have any custom layout. I noticed some of the layouts cause the load times to double or triple.
