Sounds like maybe you don't have the Filter window open. Add it to your layout either by pressing Ctrl+F or via the View -> Windows menus. That should give you access to various tabs (including cast and crew) with which you can filter your collection.

Yes they worked - thanks so much. One question if I follow your advice and click the auto expand box sets - will that list all the films in that box under the same number??? jay

Try doing it again and saying yes. The child profiles will automatically be given the next highest collection number available, but you can always edit the numbers to match the boxed set after they're added.

If you've got quite a few boxed sets, try doing a few at a time so you don't lose track of your numbers.

When adding boxed sets from new, as long as you have "prompt for personalisation" ticked, you are given the opportunity to change the number there and then, but once the boxed set is in your collection, you have to add the child profiles then change the numbers.

Can't guarantee it. But you can always overwrite the number when you re-add it, just make sure you have "prompt for personalisation" ticked. And this way will allow you to change the number of the child profiles as they're added too, rather than doing it afterwards.

Also a lot of my DVDs are two film DVDs with the titles in DVDP separated by a slash e.g first film/second film. But when I type the second title in the search title block at the top it won't show up. The first film will show up but not the second. Is there any way around that???  Thanks Jay

If you tick the "Substring Search" box the filter works on any part of the title, not just the beginning, so if you type in the name of the second film the box set will show up.
