You can create a new database. Menu, File, open database, create new database. Have no profiler available at the moment, hopefully it works anyway!

This isn't a Commercial Software program...it's for cataloging your personal DVD collection. If you wanted a program for use as a front-end to your rental business, there are other, much more expensive, commercial software programs available.

Hey Ho ! Not At All !!!!!

it's just i'm renting a lot of films (i watch about 500 films a year) so I just wanted a new "collection" list in order to remind me if i saw it or not ..... that's all...

At one point in the past I used my Wishlist to keep track of rentals. I've since stopped doing that, as it turned out to not be as useful as I first imagined. But, if there is a list you don't really use much, like the Wishlist or the Ordered List, you could use that for rentals instead.

Another options would be to use tags for this purpose, but that isn't a very elegant solution in my opinion.

In any event, Welcome to the funhouse

Ohhh...I misunderstood. The way I read your post was that you rent out DVDs . Currently there's no way to add additional tabs to DVD Profiler...believe me, it's been requested. There is a plugin that you might find useful though...MyTabs Plugin.

A new database was the best idea given. Just Open "Rented" whenever you want to work with it. Or Open "whatever name you give to the main database". It is relatively fast. In your rented database, then you can even have Wishlist for what you want to see, Ordered for somethimg like pending NetFlix deliveries, etc.

(Oops, stomped all over 8balMax - that's a good idea too!  )
Thanks for your support.

This is a good example for good use of tags. Create a tag called Rented. When you rent a movie, add it to the system and tag it with Rented. At the same time you can use the "watched" feature so you keep track of what you have seen recently and what you havn't seen for a while. When you want to watch a movie in you own collection filter out all that are taged Rented to only list the ones you own.

I've asked for this a while ago myself; mainly for a Watched tab that would contain discs that I have watched, but not necessarily own, like rentals, borrowed discs, etc..  This was met with some resistance, either due to people not wanting to store images for discs they don't use (then don't use the feature), or not seeing any use of keeping track of what movies they've seen (then why even have a history feature in the software in the first place, which it does already?).  One suggestion was to use another database, but that sounds better than it is in practice, where it fails quickly; try transferring watched discs to your owned collection with all notes, history, etc., intact.

Right now, I'm using the Ordered tab to store my watched DVDs (since that's where the DVDSpot importer put them).  I have no use for an Ordered tab in the first place, as this was the least used feature of any cataloging system I've used, and just adds more work than its worth (I can just add ordered disc(s) to my owned list when I order them or when they arrive, rather than deal with shifting them from one list to another.

Since not everyone wants a Watched tab, just like not everyone has a use for a Wish List or a Ordered list, a better solution would be to make it possible to customize the tabs to the Collection List.  The tabs are essentially all the same, being little more than quick filter selections, so make them customizable.  Let users add or remove the tabs they want.  You could create tabs for Watched, Rented, Borrowed, Loaned, Favorites, Effects, etc..  When you create a tab, you give it a name and set up the filters it uses, and you're done.  The only tab that would have a reason to always be present would be the "All" tab, but even that could be optional; again, the tabs are essentially just quick filter settings and the "All" tab is just showing an unfiltered list.  So, people that don't want to have tabs wasting space for Ordered or Wishlists can remove or re-task those tabs to suit their needs.

Tags are only a half solution to the problem.  Currently, when you set filters, those filter settings are applied to all tabs; there's no way to isolate them to a single tab. If you filter by a tag, ALL tabs are filtered by that tag; meaning you have to constantly jump back & forth between the tabs and the filters.  The filter settings are also reset each time you close the application, so if you want to look at a list of rented movies after restarting the app, you have to set up the filters again. It would be more convenient to just have a tab that you can click that has these settings already stored.

This would also make disc shuffling a bit easier.  If you buy a disc that you've already listed as watched, you set a flag on it that says it's owned, and the disc automatically shows up in the Owned Tab as well as the Watched tab.

The Watched feature was the one I used most on DVDSpot and its absence here is sorely missed.

He Who Hasn't Found Anything Quite Like DVDSpot Anywhere Else Yet.
