These credits are technically for the 1967 picture Bedazzled with Dudley Moore and Raquel Welch.

The Story is the same, screenplay is a tad bit different
This next screen shows the Screenwriter credits for the (2000) version with Fraser and Hurley

What would the proper credits be?

OMB for Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (personally I'd give Peter Cook 2 credits and use "custom role" for my local).

Screenwriters for the other 3 guys.

I agree with the bloke from the north.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

+1 and in this case you could use the new group divider.

Group divider: Based on the Motion Picture Bedazzled
- Peter Cook: OMB (Screenplay By)
- Peter Cook: OMB (Story By)
- Dudley Moore: OMB (Story By)

Larry Gelbart: Screenwriter (Screenplay By)
Harold Ramis: Screenwriter (Screenplay By)
Peter Tolan: Screenwriter (Screenplay By)

I strongly disagree with that: definitely no group divider. But they are indeed OMB credits.

If story is the same, wouldn't Story By still stand?

No: the fact that it's all "based on" turns it into OMB. It was "story by" back then, for the original 'Bedazzled' movie. But now, for the remake, it has become "original material" serving as the basis for the new screenplay.

I don't see why a group divider isn't possibible. It makes perfectly sense to me using a group divider.

And I don't see that at all, and would certainly vote against it. "Based on the Motion Picture Bedazzled" definitely does not describe a "crew team". It's just a part of those OMB credits, nothing more.

Additionally, I notice that there are indeed some users who have started assigning dividers to just about EVERY crew credit, and I'd really like to put an end to that. IMHO, a simple "Written by XXX and YYY" credit would not result in a group divider - and so on...

We really need to stop with assigning dividers to just about EVERYTHING - by your logic, a simple "Written by XXX and YYY" would result in a a group divider as, well, no?

I don't see why not.  They were the writing team that worked on the movie.  Not sure if I would necessarily agree with it.

AS far as your other point, written by  xxx and yyy does not a group make.  That would be 2 credits.

I strongly disagree. With the group divider it makes the writing credits/data far more clear and structured.

Actually they didn't work on this movie at all - they just wrote the original. It's an OMB credit, not a "crew team".
