| | Posted: | | | | Some people are really good at doing profile updates, provided that they have the disc and credit roll as source material. So this got me thinking ...
Were two people so inclined, it seems that it should be possible to use a video editing tool to save just the credits section of the film to an MPEG (or whatever) video file format that could be accessed by a player, which then could be either burned and mailed or transferred electronically to the party having the time and knowing what to do with the information.
Heard of anyone doing this? |

Someone once transcribed the full crew credits for me, so that I could pick out those needed for DVDProfiler purposes and contribute to the profile.
While it might be technically possible to rip a DVD or BluRay and just save the credit-section to a MPEG-file, this procedure is still outlawed in several countries (e.g. Germany).
Germany in this case has a very schizophrenic copyright law: While they grant you the right to make copies for personal use, provided you own the DVD/BluRay, they disallow to circumvent any kind of copy-protection ... This results in copying is not allowed. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

I guess in theory you would be on some XP MCE or later windows box with DRM built into all the drivers and such, and then have a separate screen grab program capture the DVD player frame. But I'm just guessing -- it might not work at all. It's part of why I'm still running Win2k! |

| | Posted: | | | | Use Power DVD 11 to take screen caps of the credits and convert them to .tif or .pdf in Photoshop. Then use OCR software to convert the images to text. You can then copy/paste the text into the cast and crew sections of DVD Profiler. I'm not sure if it would save any time though.
