Hello,

I have some DVD's more than once (up to 4 times).
Some i got as presents, some i bought again by accident, some i bought multipöy on purpose.

For example I have the same DVD
#1. In my collection in the shelves
#2. going around between my friends and buddies (I at least try to know who's having the disk now  )
#3. In my office (for "testing"-purposes)
#4.  As a long-time "rent" to a lady-friend of mine

My problem is, DVD-P won't allow me to enter the same DVD again into the DB.
I think creating an extra collection just for duplicates is the wrong way.

I would like a feature to enter a DVD/BD again into the collection (maybe after a duplicate warning)
Therefore each copy would have a unique index-No. and its own "rented to" fileld.

Thanks
R.L.

The reason for this particular issue is due to the fact that Profiler is designed to be a PERSONAL film library management tool, allowing multiple entries takes into the realm of a RETAIL inventory tool, and yes there are people out thewre who would lovbe that. A retail inmventory is substantially more expensive than a personal tool by hundreds of dollars typically. We all have duplicates once in a while, so you first have to understand the issue and why, recognizing that development in that direction is not likely, and then fugure oiut a way. You coulkd do it through the Tag system or the personal notes or whatever. But development to allow multi-copies is highly unlikely as I explained, if Ken were to decide to add that capability to feed the retail market it in all likelihood would not be $30 or even any price under $100 or even $200, I would expect a minimum of $300 for such a version.

The "duplicate warning" is already integrated, even though easily overseen.

Currently you have two possibilities to achieve what you want:
1) The "Count As"-feature in the "Personalize"-tab of the profile editor.
The problem with this: it doesn't give a unique index to the dupes, but therefore doesn't spoil the other statistics.

2) Manual Profiles (That's what I do for my dupes).
Give the manual profile an identifier of your choice (e.g. Bad Boys #1) and then attach it as child-profile to the main profile. Depending on your preferences you can use this in combination with the "Count As"-feature, in my case that's a "0" for each of the children and the number of dupes for the main profile.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

You can create Manual Profiles for each of your duplicates. Here's how:

1) Highlight the first title you want a duplicate of in the "Collection List" window
2) On the Menu select DVD and scroll down to "Copy" in the dropdown list
3) On the Menu select DVD then "Add to Collection"
4) In the Add DVDs to Owned window, select "Add by Title" and then un-tic "Download profile from Invelos" at the bottom left of the window.
5) In the next window enter the title of the DVD/Blu-ray in the Title Field and click on Add DVD
6) the Edit Profile window will open...just click on OK and then click on "Add Now To Owned"
7) The new Manual DVD #1 will be in your collection.
8)Highlight your new Manual DVD in the Collection Window and on the Menu select DVD then select "Paste" from the dropdown list. Select "All" in the "Paste Profile Data" window that pops up and then click OK.

You now should have a complete duplicate of your title with a Manual ID and you can loan it out or even edit the location field to tell you where it's at .

Ok.
Thanks for the replies.
The "tool only for home-use" could be avoided by limiting the numbers of multiple copies you could have... maybe to 5.

@Silence..
Thanks for the tip.  I'll try that and keep hoping

Maybe to 5? Why in god's name would you own 5 copies of the exact same DVD, unoless you were a store. That's unreasonable, duplicate copies happen to all ofr us, but FIVE.

Why 5 Copies ???
As I said ...maybe 5.
The max. copies I own from a DVD is 4. So i added up one Copy, just in case...
It''s just a suggestion.

If I were a store, I would be a very small one, if my max# of Copies of a DVD is 5 or lower.

Not really... I used to work in a video rental store for years... and it was a very big store... offering over 10,000 titles. And the most we ever got of a single title is 2 copies... 3 copies at the very max. And then that was brought down to only 1 after the first couple weeks of release. And that store continued on with a very nice profit for years. Granted we are in an area where there was no other rental place for miles.

As for the topic on hand... while it isn't a huge deal to me... it's not a feature I would get any use out of. Of the few movies I have more then one copy of (if it is the same edition and all so same UPC) I would just tag it with the number of copies I have. That is until I would eventually give the second copy away to someone... as I don't see the need to keep something I already have.

You forgot that the same limitation of the program prevents us profile correctly two different movies on the same side of the disc... and that's a big deal, at least for me.

What you bring up is something that is also important to me... but I don't see that as the same situation at all. That has to be handled by a way to make each movie for the UPC to have it's own profile... not like the OP talking about where they want to have the same exact profile more then once. In which case.. not something I am worried about... up to Ken if he wants to add it... but not something I personally would have a use for like I said.

But technically it is the same program limitation. At the moment primary key is a combination of locality and UPC/DiscID fields. If we would like to profile more films on the same side of the disc, Original Title should be added as a attribute for the primary key. If we also like to have multiple copies of the exactly same film then the primary key should be a combination of  locality, UPC/DiscID, Original Title and running number. I'm by no means a database designer, so someone more qualified in that area probably knows a better technical implementation. That was just a general idea.

There is already a limit set and it's one...
