How would you title the following DVD:



It is an opera DVD:  a recording of an opera produced on stage (rather than as a movie). 

It is currently in the database as Karajan - Verdi: Don Carlo, which is obviously wrong, if for nothing else than the hyphen (and it's incomplete or too much, depending upon how one sees the cover).

Herbert von Karajan, whose name you see prominently displayed at the top, is the conductor.

Giuseppe Verdi, whose name you see prominently displayed at the bottom, is the composer.

The title of the opera is Don Carlo, which is in much smaller print below Verdi's name in the first red box.

"Herbert von Karajan: His Legacy for Home Video" is a series of releases, including both operas and orchestra concerts.  I believe that would be the edition, as defined by the rules (like The Criterion Collection, or Global Lens Collection releases).  However, the field will not fit the entire name, and will leave off the word Video. 

Locally I'm going to be simply titling it Don Carlo, but I wanted to know what people thought the title should be for the online.

I think in my local database I would do it different, but based on the logic from the rules Performer: Title (Performance) It should be somthing like that imho:

Yes, I wondered about doing it that way as well, as it does follow the logic in the rules for music performance DVD.
(Does it fit in the Title field? )

I suppose my thinking ran along the lines of posing the question "what is the focus of the performance"; I would take the position that this is not, say, " Led Zeppelin playing a their own music (mostly) in a live setting" but is actually "an opera by Giuseppe Verdi called Don Carlo", which just happens to be performed (on this occasion) by HvK & the BP...not to mention Jose Carreras & company.


But I'm pretty cool either way.....thankfully I haven't got the DVD in question, so I won't have to make the decision!

I'd propose to keep it simple.

The title is Don Carlo.
Giuseppe Verdi goes into the composer field.
Von Karajan and others go into the cast fields, that's what they are for.
